My Preschool Classroom – St. Patrick’s Day Week

This week is a short week for me in the classroom because we have a couple of days off for spring break.  Although we only have a few days at school this week I wanted to make everything about St. Patrick’s Day.  I have a green and gold sensory tub along with plenty of fun themed activities.

My sensory tub is a leprechaun’s paradise!  I used food dye to color uncooked oatmeal.  Just add a few tablespoons of vanilla or rubbing alcohol to the oatmeal and then add the food coloring.  Mix and allow to completely dry before adding to your sensory tub.  The gold nuggets are popcorn kernels covered in gold glitter.  I put them in a small plastic bag with diluted Mod Podge and then added really fine gold glitter.  I poured them onto a foil lined cookie sheet to dry over night before adding them to the sensory tub.

I used free printables available online for some of our choosing time activities.

Our class is also learning about the letter U.  We have some fun umbrella and upside down themed activities but my favorite U word is definitely unicorn.  I used a cute coloring page this week during choosing time too.

Before we head off to spring break later this week our class will be making leprechaun traps.  I’m really excited to see the amazement when the kids come back to school Monday and discover the chocolate gold coins left behind by the leprechauns!
