How to Get Your Sassy Cat into a Halloween Costume

Halloween will be a little different in our home with the loss of our 15 year old cat earlier this year. Our cat Hercules was incredibly patient and let my four year old daughter dress him up in princess clothes daily.  I knew when I heard giggling coming from my daughter's playroom, it was probably because Hercules was proudly displaying his latest princess outfit complete with a crown.  This year my daughter is missing going to shop for a cat Halloween costume because our other cat, Read More... {Read More...}

Unattended Candy Bowl on your Porch for Halloween

My husband and I both enjoy taking our daughter around the neighborhood to trick or treat. We live in a great community full of families and children that also love trick or treating on Halloween. Last year we joined all of our neighbors and left a big unattended candy bowl on our porch while we were out trick or treating.  I used my daughter's chalkboard easel to make a fun sign to set out next to the candy.  I remember growing up my brothers and I were always excited when Read More... {Read More...}

No Sew Costume: Bird’s Nest in a Tree

Last night I went to a Halloween festival wearing a fun costume I put together in less than an hour.  My bird's nest in a tree required no sewing and was made completely from items I already had at home. Supplies: Green shirt (tee, cardigan, or sweater) Green and brown felt Markers Fabric Glue Toy nest and bird The tree sweater only took a few minutes to make.  I found a green cardigan that I'm sure I've never worn hanging in my closet.  The leaves were cut with Read More... {Read More...}

Preschool Halloween Snack – Candy Corn Pizza

Earlier this week I shared the Frankenstein Jello Cups my daughter shared with her preschool class.  In addition to the jello cups we also brought Candy Corn Pizza.  The slices were extra small for little hands.  I'm tempted to call them "Candy Corn Pizza Bites". I've seen this Halloween themed pizza everywhere online recently but I wanted to try and make a smaller version. Ingredients: Pizza Dough (homemade or store bought, we used Pillsbury canned pizza dough) Biscuit cutter (or if Read More... {Read More...}

Frankenstein Jello Cups

Last week we brought snacks for my daughter's preschool class.  She was very excited to share Frankenstein cups!  I've seen so many green pudding cups with funny faces drawn but I wanted to avoid adding dye to pudding.  I used one of my daughter's favorite snacks, Jello, instead. Supplies: Clear cups Black pipe cleaners Hole Punch Black permanent marker Green Jello (not shown)   Use the black marker to draw faces BEFORE pouring the prepared Jello (per Read More... {Read More...}

Add Height to Halloween Decor with Books

I don't have a mantel in my home but I do have fun decorating the top of our piano.  This year for Halloween I was looking to add a little height to some of my decorations.  I went to our bookshelf and pulled out the scariest books I could find.  Aside from some college text books about the psychology of serial killers I ended up with Edgar Allan Poe's poems, Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales.  Stacked together they added the perfect height to my Read More... {Read More...}
