Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival Tips

We made it through our move and are finally starting to get back to a normal routine in a new home. Our fast moving routine isn’t slowing down and we want to make sure our daughters have great memories of their first season in our new home. Arizona temperatures are still pretty warm so fall here isn’t the same as all those picturesque magazines I’m seeing in my mailbox. Most pumpkin patch experiences near us are family owned farms selling pumpkins but nonetheless, they always host a great fall festival with fun for the entire family including corn mazes, hayrides and petting farms. Coming off of the busiest and most physically exhausting couple of months, my body is still in recovery mode. We’re almost done unpacking boxes and getting things situated in the new home but every morning I wake up with new aches and pains I don’t remember feeling the night before. Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit® Orthotic Inserts from Walmart have kept me on my feet and moving through these weeks with many activities planned in addition to my normal work schedule and brutal attempt to get our house unboxed faster than any other move we’ve experienced. Big sister doesn’t know but this week I planned some daytime fun for little sister and I at a local farm. Dr. Scholl’s® advanced FootMapping® technology uses over 2,000 pressure sensors to create your Custom Footmap identifying your arch type, foot length and unique pressure points. In under 2 minutes at a personal evaluation kiosk in Walmart you learn which Custom Fit® Orthotic Inserts are right for you. Say goodbye to the days of standing in front of a long aisle reading packaging hoping you’re not spending on something that really won’t make a difference. Custom Fit® Orthotics provide clinically proven immediate and all day pain relief for foot, knee, or lower back pain from being on your feet so wearing them to an all day fall festival was a priority this week.

Little sister was so excited to go to a fall festival with me while our oldest daughter was at school. At two years old everything is magical to her and I’ve heard no complaints about all the forts we’ve built out of empty boxes while unpacking our home this month. She’s been the best little partner during the busy days getting our new home situated but we were both looking forward to a day away from all the boxes.

Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival Tips

Purchase tickets online.

Spontaneous fall festival visits are fun but with just a little advanced planning purchasing your tickets online can save on the purchase price. For us, local family farms don’t always have the option of purchasing online but most do have a printable coupon to use when you arrive.

Wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Although we still are in shorts and flip flops daily here, closed toed shoes are important when visiting a fall festival. Some hayrides don’t permit sandals and hay doesn’t feel good on little toddler toes. The farm we visited had inflatables where children could play without shoes. Socks and slip ons were ideal for the day because little sister could easily take her shoes off and put them back on all by herself to move to the different festival activities.

Make it a learning opportunity.

You’re there to have fun but I always make every experience a learning opportunity. Little sister and I talked a lot about the what happens at the farm when all the visitors go home. We guessed how many chickens lived there and pointed out the big tires on the tractor.

Go on rides.

Little sister couldn’t wait for her turn on the “cow train.” Our admission to the farm included all the rides so we made sure we tried everything at least once.

Visit the animals.

If your fall festival includes a petting zoo or is on an actual working farm be sure to take the time to see the animals. This is an excellent learning opportunity for children and was little sister’s favorite activity of the day.

Walk through the corn maze.

Visiting during the day pretty much guaranteed the corn maze was family friendly and not spooky.

She was happily up for the challenge and wanted to lead the way through the corn maze.

This is where my tired feet would have turned us right back around if I hadn’t been wearing Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit® Orthotic Inserts. They are comprised of four layers with each providing a different benefit. Together the layers provide support and cushioning that are custom fitted to your feet and provide all-day comfort. Getting lost in the corn maze for what little sister decided was “16 hours,” really wasn’t that bad after all.

Explore.

Some of the most beautiful views on the farm were the ones we noticed on our own. A field of sunflowers under the bluest sky and bright Arizona sun was a great reminder that even though we don’t have traditional color changing fall seasons, fall in the desert is pretty spectacular.

Find the perfect pumpkin.

A piggy back ride out of the corn maze, spending a quarter on a sucker at the concession stand and picking out the perfect pumpkin completed our great day together.

  2. So many fun things to do at pumpkin patches. Definitely dress for the weather. No fun freezing your bootie off while trying to walk through a corn maze. And those little fuzzy sneakers are super cute 🙂
