Get Out Get Active | Fun Things to do Outside

I’ve lived in Arizona my entire life and being outside has always been important to my family. I grew up camping and fishing with my parents and spending most holidays and long weekends at the lake. Arizona does have warm summers but it’s still possible to get out and enjoy the sun in early mornings or close to sunset. We live at the base of a beautiful mountain range full of trails for exploring but don’t get out there often enough. This year we’re committing to getting out and getting active in our own community. Getting outside is easy but getting outside with the proper essentials is vital to enjoying the Arizona outdoors. We are sharing our favorite fun things to do outside, snacking essentials and a sweepstakes where you can enter to win an awesome prize pack.

Fun things to do outside

Road trip day adventures

We are surrounded by so much beauty and rarely prioritize the time to explore outside of our immediate surroundings. Our favorite road trip day adventures are always the most spontaneous and get us out of the car walking through parks and museums we had not seen before.

Hikes

Early morning hikes are our favorite. The birds are chirping, you can smell the cactus blooms and the air feels light before it later climbs over 100 in the Summer.

Snacks

Getting outside is easy but getting outside with the proper essentials requires a plan. Having Optimum Nutrition snacks in our home makes it easy for a great grab-and-go snack when we are headed outside. Our local Walmart has a great selection of protein-packed snacks to keep us ready for all the fun. Each bar provides 20 grams of protein to keep you fueled for all your outdoor activities. The Cake Bites are a tasty whipped protein snack that are individually wrapped with three cakes per serving and coated with yogurt or chocolate flavored frosting.

Kashi GO Cereal comes in a variety of flavors with new packaging to encourage getting out and getting active. Our family already loves Kashi GO Peanut Butter Crunch as a great alternative to other classic peanut butter cereals that bring no nutritional value to our breakfast table. We recently found a few other favored flavors at Walmart and are now big fans of the Kashi GO Honey Almond Flax Crunch.

This delicious cereal has 13 grams of whole grains, including fiber and ALA Omega-3 in every serving. The protein-powered cereal is a great start to the day. It also makes an excellent snack for a hike.

Bike Rides

A visit to Walmart usually results in our daughters exploring the family bike shop with a grand attempt at bringing home a new bike. This week I visited to try out the Schwinn Sidewinder Bike and know it would make a great gift for my husband. The bike’s steel mountain-style frame and front suspension fork provides a durable ride while the 21-speed Revoshift twist shifters and Shimano rear derailleur provide a wide gear range and quick shifts. Knobby tread mountain tires are designed for the trail and perfect to get us inspired for more challenging rides.

Sunsets

The Arizona sun setting over our pretty mountains with cactus silhouettes is stunning and a view that shouldn’t be missed if you ever visit. We’re planning to take more time to enjoy what we already have right in our own backyard.

  1. Getting outdoors is super important where I live in Southern California, too! These snacks sound like a great way to fuel a family through a fun day of adventuring.

  2. I’m hoping to spend more time outside this summer, especially since I’m moving somewhere less hot then where I currently live. I love going on hikes and hitting up the farmer’s market during the warmer seasons.
