As a parent and preschool teacher, I know building confidence and growing creativity in children is important. Our family has been creating family memories at As You Wish for many years. My husband and I made our very first creation together before we were married and continue to enjoy visiting the pottery painting studio with our daughter. We were recently invited to As You Wish for a painting event and to learn about the 2014 summer classes inspired by children’s literature. During the event we learned about the pottery process and made new family memories.
As You Wish first opened in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1995. After much success with their popular family friendly studios, they expanded to other locations in Arizona. My husband and I first visited the pottery painting studio in January 2005 exactly one year before our wedding day. We planned our wedding for almost two years and being just one year away, we went to As You Wish to celebrate. Together we painted a ring box and planned to use it for my engagement ring each night and then a year later, my wedding ring. My husband painted a ring on the inside of the lid and I added our names and the date to the bottom. Almost 10 years later I am still putting my rings in that As You Wish box each night before bedtime.
Years later, in 2008, our daughter was born. At just 6 months old I took her to As You Wish with friends and stamped her feet on a plate. I taped a picture of us to the back of the plate to forever remember the experience. Seeing her cute chubby baby feet painted blue in the photo on the back makes this an extra special As You Wish memory.
Over the past few years my daughter has enjoyed visiting As You Wish. We have quite the growing collection of her creations.
Last year she enjoyed painting with one of her best friends from preschool and the Fairytale Events Cinderella.
She has also enjoyed a couple of birthday parties celebrating with friends at As You Wish.
During the event we recently attended Miss Liz, the As You Wish class designer, was onsite to teach the children how to paint the Fingerprint Tree Plate inspired by The Giving Tree book.
My daughter enjoyed painting and adding her own creative spin on the project. She learned her initials during the class and instead of simply writing her own on the tree, she added our entire family initials including pets. Our family tree plate is very special and my daughter is so proud of her creation.
While the children were painting, we were given a tour of the As You Wish studio and learned what happens to the pottery after the customer is done painting. Each pottery piece is brought to the back for a coat of bright blue glaze. Then the pottery is placed in a large kiln to be fired. The blue glaze turns to a shine and the pottery is complete after spending the day in the kiln. In just a few days, you are able to pick up your completed pottery.
