Our dog Sophie, a beautiful Siberian Husky, has been a very picky eater from the time we brought her home as a puppy. Now, at nine years old, her eating preferences have not changed and we have tried every suggestion to convince her to eat dry dog food. Mix ins like baby food, shredded chicken and shredded cheese are her favorite but instead of adding our own people food, we would much rather prefer she was eating her own food. She’s been loving her new CESAR® Dry Filet Mignon with spring vegetables and CESAR® Pate Mixed Variety Pack from Walmart. We’ve been mixing the two together at dinnertime and our very vocal Sophie hasn’t complained. CESAR® lets you feed your dog like family, but keep them healthy at the same time. The DIY Stained Glass Dog Food Bowl is a fun way to serve Sophie’s new favorite meal.
DIY Stained Glass Dog Food Bowl
Supplies:
- aluminum dog food bowl
- permanent markers
- skinny washi tape
Remove rubber ring from bottom of the dog food bowl. Then use the washi tape to make geometric shapes on the bowl.
Color in the open spaces on the bowl with permanent marker.
Peel the washi tape off the bowl when you have colored all the open shapes.
Put the rubber ring back on the bottom of the dog food bowl and you’re done!
Serve with your dog’s favorite food for a special meal.
New CESAR® dry with Meat-First Recipes reinforces that mealtime is just as important for your dog as for you. Sophie is a big fan of the filet mignon flavor!
Sophie is enjoying dinnertime with her new stained glass dog food bowl.
Dog serving tip: instead of using a plastic mat, place dog food and water bowls on a memory foam bath mat. It is machine washable and absorbs all the water our silly dog spills.
We purchase our CESAR® dog food at Walmart.

This turned out so cool! I love the look of the permanent marker on stainless steel. #client
Thanks! This is such an easy project and I love how it turned out.
OMG what an awesome idea. I absolutely LOVE how it came out. So creative!
Thank you, I love it too!
We don’t have a dog, but I am going to have our 3 year old help make this for our cats. Your other tip about the foam mat would probably work for the cats as well. Thanks for a simple, creative idea.
It would be great for cat bowls too! I’m sure my daughter is going to want to make one for her hedgehog as well.
Love the DIY of the dog bowl! I will definitely be sharing this with my friend who’s obsessed with her dog’s and I know she will love doing this activity for them!
Fun, thanks for sharing!
what a cute idea! My dog has the steel bowls and this would be perfect to make them look a little cuter.
And they are so easy to make!!
That bowl is so cool. It’s so sweet that you love your dog so much that you would take the time to make something so special.
Thanks, but really it was a super fast project. I’m sure we’ll be making more!
don’t have a dog but love this DIY! Would have never thought to up their doggie bowl but why not?
Thank you! This is a fun DIY for any stainless surface!
That’s a cool look. I can imagine doing this on my husband’s Yeti. I can also imagine divorce papers coming my way! LOL.
Haha!
What a great idea to jazz something up! I would love doing this for the kid’s stuff too!!
Thanks, I have a few more projects in mind with this method too!
We don’t have a dog yet, but marrying my husband kind of came with the promise that we’d get a dog someday. When we get one I’ll have to make this stain glass bowl. I love it!
Oh I hope you get your dog! Having Sophie in our home has been magical.
This is literally the most beautiful dog bowl I have ever seen. It is so pretty and I love the stained glass effect!
Thanks so much!
That dog bowl came out so cute. It mirrors stained glass which is so cute. Anything to spruce up the home.
Thank you! I definitely don’t mind this dish being left out when guests are over!
This is really cute! Crazy to my how expensive decorated dog food bowls are, so this is a perfect way around that!
Pretty pet food and water dishes are really pricey! I had everything I needed at home already to complete this project – I bet you do too!
That is such a cute idea! We have so many of those bowls between my cats and dogs, but I never thought of making them look prettier. Yours are so much nicer now!
Thanks, we love how it turned out too. Give it a try, it truly takes no time at all.
This turned out super cute! Love the geometric pattern. I’m not sure that would last around my house. I’m constantly washing the bowls lol Maybe I can put a non toxic clear coat on them…hmmmmmm So cute!
A clear coat is a great idea! Maybe Mod Podge!
This is such a cute idea! I have a lab puppy and am tempted to make this for him, love!
Definitely make one, it’s such a fast project!
What a beautiful idea! This would be perfect for my lab dog. I think my daughter and I would have a blast making this.
My daughter is currently working on one too! This project is so easy and great for the entire family.
This is such a cute idea I would love to do something like this with my cat’s bowls
Our cat bowls will be getting a makeover too!
This is genius, I’m totally making something like this for my cats! How have I not thought of this before, it’s honestly so clever! x
Sometimes the easiest projects are the best projects! $0 for supplies and 10 minutes – this one’s a favorite!
This is so cute! I love how easy it is too. My kids would love helping me do this!
Thanks, my eight year old daughter loved it too!
What an adorable idea! We just brought home our first puppy this weekend and I think my kids would love to do something like this for her.
Congratulations!! A new dog food dish would be a fun family project to celebrate your new puppy.
Hi. The Sharpie permanent markers aren’t “food safe”. There are “food safe” markers that work on metal like the Pebeo Porcelaine 150 pens. My pup is messy and licks the entire bowl. My rule of thumb is, if you wouldn’t let your human baby put it in their mouth, then it’s not good enough for my pup baby.
So I have a very smart mouse in my house. I have an autorefill dog bowl system. This mouse can shimmy up the side of the bowl, stand on the edge and eat out of the dog bowl. Any suggestions? Thanks.
