Father’s Day at our house is usually celebrated with dinner and few handmade gifts from my daughter to her daddy. Giving gifts is very exciting for a five year old and she was frustrated to hear her daddy didn’t have anything special on his wishlist this year. She insisted on giving him the best gift ever. When I asked her most favorite thing to do with her dad, she quickly responded, “spinning on the teacups!” We visit Disneyland often and the memories they have made on the teacups over the past five years are definitely enough to keep them both smiling everyday. Material gifts to help keep her daddy smiling like a new Oral B Rechargeable Toothbrush will satisfy my daughter’s desire to purchase a gift but in all honestly, she has already given him the gift to power dad’s smile everyday. Together they are turning giggles into favorite memories over the special bond they share spinning in the Disneyland teacups.
My daughter’s very first visit to Disneyland was before she was a year old. Loving it so much we took her back just a couple of months later for her first spin in the teacups. She was an extremely clingy baby and rarely willingly let go of me for anything. She would cry each time I passed her to my husband and the disappointment was obvious. He was so attentive and patient but each time he tried to help with any hands on parenting responsibilities, she would always reach for me. The monumental moment we all were waiting for happened when my daughter realized I don’t like to spin on the teacups. Having rode several times already, she happily went to her daddy’s arms when he invited her to wait in line for the attraction. Almost five years later, I have only been on the teacups with them a handful of times. Instead I have stood by to watch and photograph the hundreds of times they have giggled together spinning on the Disneyland teacups.
At two years old, my daughter decided she could control the spinning teacup. I’m not sure my husband has been allowed to spin them ever since.
I clearly remember the big smile my husband had the first time my daughter reached from my arms for him to stand in line for the teacups. With so many other things to do in Disneyland, I could easily overlook stopping at this attraction. But for my husband and daughter, we start and finish each park visit on the Disneyland teacups.
