I have the best mom. Really, the best. She works at the Post Office in the small town where I grew up and everyday she makes days better by sharing her smile. She also shares that smile with our family while loving on her grandbabies. This Mother’s Day I wanted to gift her a reminder of the wonderful memories she helps us make everyday. With the help of American Greetings at Walmart, I framed a favorite photo of her playing on the beach with my daughters and made a matching tissue paper transfer art canvas to bring many smiles remembering the time we spent together during our spring break road trip.
Our California spring break visit had many days spent at a favorite beach. The Carlsbad Inn is the very first place my husband and I road tripped to together 15 years ago. We visit Carlsbad often and lazy beach days are where we spend most of our time together. My mom’s first time with us in Carlsbad was a great family vacation full of beach days soaking up the sun and sand castle building with our daughters.
I knew I would be framing one of our beach photos for my mom to gift on Mother’s Day and finding a matching American Greetings card at Walmart pulled the project together. I used the buy two American Greetings cards and earn $2 coupon and found everything I needed for our Mother’s Day gift including cards, tissue paper and gift bag.
The turquoise and blue water on the beach and the pink polka dots on little sister’s bathing suit top matched the American Greetings Mother’s Day card perfectly. Turquoise, blue and pink tissue paper with a turquoise chevron gift bag added to the beach day gift theme. I printed our favorite Carlsbad beach day photo on my home printer and framed it then started the easy tissue paper transfer art project.
Tissue Paper Transfer Art
Supplies:
- white canvas
- spray bottle
- rubbing alcohol
- tissue paper
- scissors
Cut the tissue paper into strips or shapes. Our art was inspired by a beach day photo so I cut the blue paper into rectangles. I also used a hole punch to make pink circles and remind my mom of that cute swimsuit her youngest granddaughter was wearing while we all played on the beach.
Spray the canvas with water. Then place the tissue paper on the canvas for your desired design. Little sister had so much fun helping make our gift.
Spray the top of the tissue paper transfer art canvas with rubbing alcohol. Although the color of the tissue paper will eventually transfer onto the canvas, the lighter colors bleed better with alcohol.
Allow the canvas to sit for approximately 10 minutes then carefully remove the tissue paper.
An hour later our photo inspired tissue paper transfer art canvas was dry and ready to be wrapped for Mother’s Day.
