We have been watching Sea Rescue, the ABC show following animal rescue stories, since it debuted in 2012. The series, hosted by Matt Gutman, features many different animals and scenarios in which rescue teams and centers must intervene to give second chances at life. My eight year old daughter Gabie, the SeaWorld kid blogger, personally knows many of the SeaWorld team members featured regularly on the show and it’s always extra exciting when we see our friends in action helping animals. She has had many incredible learning opportunities at SeaWorld San Diego with different animals and behaviorists including her animal boat return experience but nothing will stand out more than last summer when she helped rescue a sea lion from a California beach. A few months later, the Sea Rescue team visited our home in Arizona to talk to her about the experience. She is starring in this season’s premier episode Saturday, October 7 at 10:00 AM and couldn’t be more excited to share her love for helping animals and ocean conservation on a show she has watched for many years.
Last year, in 2016, Sea Rescue was awarded the Daytime Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Series. The returning season debuting with an episode featuring my daughter and her desire to work with animals is very special for our family.
We visit SeaWorld San Diego very often and it’s always been Gabie’s dream to be there when a live sea lion rescue call came in. Last summer we were there when a sea lion needed to be rescued from a nearby beach. Gabie and I were invited to go with the SeaWorld rescue team to observe the call. It turned into a hands on amazing learning experience for her.
You’ll have to watch the Sea Rescue premier for all the details and to see more live action of the actual rescue process. Gabie was so honored to be a part of this amazing rescue and meet the team outside of SeaWorld involved. She knows the SeaWorld rescue team very well as she has been visiting them since she was just four years old but it’s not everyday she gets to interview the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Once the sea lion was back at the SeaWorld San Diego rescue center, Gabie helped provide cool water and fluids. This process is not new to her but it is the first time she was able to participate in the intake process with the SeaWorld vets.
With so many years ahead of her to continue learning and growing at SeaWorld, I can’t thank everyone enough for the unbelievable learning opportunities Gabie has experienced.
The Sea Rescue filming crew visiting our home in Arizona after the sea lion rescue was a great surprise. They set up in our living room and Gabie’s bedroom to film for the episode but we had no idea it would be the season premier! Gabie has waited an entire year for this episode to air.
Watch Gabie on Sea Rescue Saturday, 10/7 on ABC at 10am. Check your local listing to watch it live or catch it later on Hulu and/or Netflix.

Who inspires your children to follow their dreams?
See more about our experiences at SeaWorld San Diego and read why I still choose to support SeaWorld. A few of my favorite visits include my daughter learning that girls can be anything they want to be from Miss California and killer whales at SeaWorld.
This is so great! We have to teach our kids to do the right things and encourage them to go above and beyond – to dream big and that nothing should hold them back! Amazing experience for her and I too would be very proud!! So awesome!

What a great experience for your daughter. And so amazing that she takes part in a rescue like this at such a young age. It’s great that she is growing up with an appreciation for animals. I vacation about once a year in Ocean Beach San Diego which is very close to Sea World. I’ve never been to Sea World, But I’ll have to check it out on one of these trips.
