My favorite thing about being a mom includes a long list of funny conversations I’ve recently had with my two year old daughter. Those precious moments in between paint smeared all over the walls, “sharing” my lipstick and spending an excessive amount of time with board books at the library have me longing for me time and real conversation with grown ups. You know, grown ups that can relate to the chaos that brings so much joy to your everyday. Last weekend I hosted a “Let Me Butter You Up” Mother’s Day Wine Party with JaM Cellars Butter for the perfect dose of grown up friends time. I invited over some of my favorite mom friends including my own mom, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and girls we hadn’t seen in many years.
Growing up in Arizona near mountains and lakes we spent most holidays with family friends camping. I have countless childhood memories of weekends at the lake, fishing, playing in the mud and making s’mores around campfires. It’s been many many years since I have been camping and my own daughters have never slept overnight in a tent. I would love to plan a camping weekend with my family but would love it even more if we invited friends that we grew up camping with. One of my mom’s closest childhood friends, Terri, took this photo of my mom and I at the lake in 1982. Inviting her over for a Mother’s Day Wine Party with her adult daughter, my own childhood best friend, was a fun time talking about all our family memories camping together.
Decorations
JaM Cellars makes three easy-to-love, everyday California wines: Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet and Toast Sparkling. Their signature butter yellow labels make it easy to decorate for a Mother’s Day Wine Party. The “Let Me Butter You Up” theme is a play on the chardonnay and matched well with bright butterflies. You can easily add a text line with your home address and party date/time to the printable invitations. I emailed the invitation and printed it on my HP Envy printer at home.
I printed the same design and transfered it to a chalkboard by simply outlining the back of the print with white chalk then rubbing it on the board. Just like my movie night snack station easel board craft, I traced the design with chalk markers. Using the same butterfly print I created for my easy butterfly vase, I printed 15 butterflies to cut out and decorate the party table.
A party with your favorite mom friends means all your guests realize having children at home leaves little time for party planning and cleaning your house. This is the first party I’ve hosted recently where the entire day prior to the party was not spent cleaning – my favorite type of party! I also kept the decorations simple using supplies I already had at home. My daughter’s second birthday hedgehog party decorations included a 3D tree stump cardboard standup. I made tissue paper flowers recycling old tissue paper in the birthday party gift bags then used double sided tape to attach them to the tree stump. A few printed butterflies added the perfect color to the centerpiece for our Mother’s Day party. The standup is very sturdy and was also a great display for the JaM Cellars wine glasses.
Wine & Food
A Mother’s Day Wine Party should be celebrated with a wine all your friends will enjoy. JaM Cellars Butter is an everyday wine and the best chardonnay for under $20 a bottle. The Butter brims with stone fruit and baked-lemon notes for a lovely, long, vanilla finish that’s light and crisp. Our wine party also had plenty of snacks but I didn’t spend too much time in the kitchen preparing. I purchased several different cheeses to display on a cheese board with almonds, chocolate and crackers. Lemon cupcakes, chocolate cream sandwich cookies and fruit water gave the party a bright and festive feel displayed next to the colorful flowers and butterflies. Invite friends
It had been years since I last saw my childhood best friend, Jenny, and her daughter, Jada. Almost 20 years actually. We now live in the same city and the Mother’s Day Wine Party was a perfect reason to reconnect. Our last photo together was taken just before Jenny was in labor delivering her son. My mom and I were in the delivery room with Jenny and her mom and to this day, it’s the only actual baby delivery I’ve witnessed besides my own.
Almost 20 years since seeing Jenny and Jada, we sipped, smiled and shared with JaM Cellars. It was a great reminder we need to make time to see friends more often. With children life gets busy but as moms that me time with your friends is so important.
The special night was a great time for my mom to reconnect with friends she also doesn’t get to see often. My mom and Terri grew up together sharing many mom moments as they navigated their way through parenthood. We all laughed together for hours as they shared stories and photos with us.
Gifts for moms
Spending time together was the best gift but I also made sure all the moms went home with something special to remember this evening. I printed Mother’s Day necklace holder cards to hold a mom bar necklace. I also made sure Jada had a “because you made her a mom” gift with a Mother’s Day daughter necklace holder card.
Memories
Because it had been years since we saw each other, we made sure to take photos all evening.
During the Mother’s Day Wine Party we talked about our favorite things about being a mom. I have a long list but that night it was being able to spend time with my mom and our best mom friends to celebrate. What’s your favorite thing about being a parent?
