Hydration for Young Athletes

When it comes to pushing physical boundaries, my eight year old daughter has no limits. She excels at everything she tries and is extremely competitive when she makes a personal commitment. We thought hockey would be her sport but she’s taken on a new love with rock climbing and hasn’t looked back. From spending a few summer camps in the climbing gym to now just a couple of years later, she’s on a competitive team holding her weight well with much more experienced and older young athletes. She has team practice for several hours twice a week and is required to clock personal climbing hours in the gym. Hydration for young athletes is so important, especially when she’s spending so much time depleting her energy with physical activities. BODYARMOR from Kroger is the perfect hydration for young athletes because it’s a premium sports drink with no artificial flavors or sweeteners. The drink has potassium-packed electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins making it a great bottle to grab and toss into my daughter‘s rock climbing bag before practice each week. This week BODYARMOR sent us a cooler bag full of their sports drink to sponsor and help facilitate this post so my daughter was able to bring some flavors she hadn’t tried yet to the gym with her.

We are not a rock climbing family but have learned about the sport through the process of our daughter’s enthusiasm to participate on a team. She was invited to try out for the team before she was old enough because of the potential she displayed during summer camp. A year later, she’s much stronger, mature and skilled in her climbs. It’s been an unbelievable journey watching her body change and grow as she is getting physically and mentally stronger in the gym. BODYARMOR water is a premium sport water designed by athletes, for athletes. My daughter was excited to learn the brand has an impressive team of young athlete ambassadors including James Harden, Mike Trout, Dustin Johnson, Andrew Luck, Richard Sherman, Dez Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Buster Posey, Skylar Diggins and several others.

At only eight, she recently moved from a team practicing with peers closer to her own age to the competitive team with older teammates. She’s not quite lead climbing yet but she is doing more bouldering on higher walls. That means she’s climbing without ropes and developing muscle strength in places you wouldn’t know how to strength train otherwise. She has strong wrists and her core is more defined everyday.

It always amazes me how she just gets up and climbs without any visible fear. Sometimes I see her pausing for a second to evaluate what’s ahead. That pause never comes with a face of fear, instead it looks to me like she’s strategizing a complicated math problem. This fearless girl is so much more brave than I ever was at her age.

  5. What an amazing girl and talent!! I’ve never heard of a rock wall climbing team, but it’s definitely something my kiddo would love! I’ll have to check out these drinks, too- we are often outside in the hot, Texas sun and these would be great to take along on hikes.

  8. I think it’s so awesome that your daughter is a rock climber!! I love that she has that competitive fire in her, she sounds like my kiddos. I think they’d get along great. πŸ™‚
We just tried BODYARMOR a few weeks ago after one of my son’s flag football games. He had a double header that Saturday, so we stopped off to get him something to keep him hydrated before the next game. We were blown away with how good it was. I was kind of upset that us girls opted for water, the boys had the good stuff with the BODYARMOR.
Wishing your little athlete all the best!

  9. My daughter is not the most competitive person in the world. She played soccer for 2 seasons and her favorite part was sitting on the blanket on the sidelines, playing tea party. She is really good when she’s competing against herself, however. She has been in dance classes since she was at least 3 and takes tumbling classes as well. She’s pretty incredible at that stuff.

  10. Thank you for the giveaway. My kids do not play sports. However, my daughter would like to play softball, and my son is an Eagle Scout. This drink would have been perfect for when he was active in scouting!

  11. My son is only two, so he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of any sports yet, but he loves playing outdoors and discovering new things from types of rocks to flowers and insects. He loves it all, and it’s extremely important to keep hydrated when doing just about anything outdoors.

  15. I’ve heard great things about this drink. My son just asked for some sort of energy drink, but I think I will steer him in this direction instead. He’s 12, I’d rather him be safely hydrated than caffeinated!
