Last Friday my family and I attended the Hershey’s Moderation Nation Family Play Date in Peoria, Arizona. The play date was free for the community and all the activities were planned by local youth leaders. The event was hosted by Olympic gymnast and Arizona native Kerri Strug. Prior to attending, I spent some time with my daughter watching Kerri’s 1996 Olympic performances. She was ecstatic when I told her we were going to meet Kerri.
The family play date had plenty of fun activities to create memories while getting active. Watching my daughter’s enthusiasm to get active was great.
The event was all about creating memories while getting active. There were other activities in addition to the track and field stations. My daughter was excited to get her face painted by a teen volunteer.
The local teen volunteers were great and spent a lot of time making sure the children were enjoying the activities.
I had so much fun watching my husband and daughter get competitive. She was sure she would win every race.
My daughter participated in all of the games but her favorite activity was definitely the hula hoops.
Watching my daughter hula hoop with Kerri Strug was an incredible experience.
In addition to the fun family play date activities, we also enjoyed watching the Hershey’s Track and Field Games events. My daughter had an amazing time watching the student athletes run around the track. She was convinced she should be racing too. We had a little family race and then refueled with chocolate milk.
Hershey’s did a great job making sure everyone was hydrated while getting active!
I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to chat with Kerri. Sharing parenting stories with an Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast was an awesome experience!
Hershey’s set aside a few minutes for my daughter to interview Kerri. Listening to my little girl asking Kerri questions will forever be a favorite mommy moment.
Prior to the event we talked about some potential questions for Kerri. My daughter stuck to her script and asked about Kerri’s favorite snacks. Kerri shared that she loves to eat fruits and vegetables for energy. She also talked to my daughter about how ice cream is yummy but it’s not something she gets to eat every day. Later at dinnertime my daughter told us she is going to eat healthy food and not dessert. Thank you Kerri!

We had a great time at the Family Play Date and my daughter has already asked to go back to the track for family races!
