Fix scuffed toes with Easy DIY Glitter Shoes

My daughter is tough on shoes.  She is very active and seems to always be wearing her newest and prettiest shoes when she is jumping in mud puddles or riding her scooter. Although she loves getting messy and playing outside, she is always devastated each time one of her favorite pairs of shoes are ruined by an adventure.  Last year instead of throwing away her shoes with scuffed toes I brought them back into the wearable pile with a sparkly makeover.  The easy DIY glitter shoes quickly became my daughter’s favorite in her closet.  I have done the same easy makeover on several other pairs and am still amazed that a little Mod Podge and glitter have saved shoes I would have otherwise thrown away.

My daughter had the best time playing on her new scooter last year wearing her favorite pair of red shoes.  After a solid week on the scooter, the toes of her shoes were scuffed and not looking so pretty anymore.  Being her absolute favorite pair of shoes it would have broken her heart to get rid of them.

I used just a couple of supplies to give the shoes a makeover.

Supplies:

  • Martha Stewart glitter
  • Mod Podge and brush
  • painters tape

Begin by taping off the front portion of the shoe leaving only the scuffed front exposed.

Completely coat the exposed part of the shoe with Mod Podge and then sprinkle with glitter. Shake off excess glitter and allow to dry.  Repeat process.  Completely cover top of dried glitter with Mod Podge and allow to dry for several hours.

Gently peel off the tape and smile when you see the excitement caused by new sparkly shoes!

These particular red shoes no longer fit my daughter but she wore them everyday for several months with out ever needing another repair!
