We all have our own thoughts on the current presidential election. My opinion has changed over the past few months but at no time have I felt good about the possibility of either candidate actually being the next President of the United States. When my seven year old daughter asked who I am voting for this week I really didn’t know how to respond. Instead I felt like running to the playground wearing a “Dad for President” shirt. Luckily I didn’t; I left that to baby sister instead. But I did explain to my daughter I do not feel good about voting for either candidate. I’m a mom of two daughters. These girls will grow up knowing they can be anything they want to be. And because of that I won’t tell my daughters the real reasons why I don’t feel good about either candidate. Our first female President should be celebrated as should an entrepreneur with dreams of becoming leader to our country. My daughters should be learning about the electoral process and the great faith we put in Americans to make good decisions for us, not about corruption and deceit. This week instead of taking part in an election I don’t feel great about, I’d much rather make the biggest decision of the day be which slide I should go down first at the playground.
The only thing that could make this “Dad for President” shirt from The Children’s Place cuter is if it declared a vote for mom instead.
Before you vote for the next President of the United States spend a few minutes at the playground and remind yourself of the great place we live, where anyone can be anything they want to be.
