Last year The Folio Society sent me one of their beautiful classic books. This year I will be turning to The Folio Society for a number of book lovers on my holiday gift list. With so many books to choose from, there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy.
The Folio Society was founded in 1947 with the dream of publishing books that could be affordable to everyone. They continue to recreate beautiful classics using high quality printing and binding materials making each book a complete experience for the book lover. The books cover a wide range of classics including both fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, biographies, history, poetry, and much more.
I received a copy of The Green Fairy Book by Andrew Lang. The book contains short classic fairy tales and I know my family will enjoy this book for many years in our home. I was thrilled to learn my mother-in-law has a copy of the original published in 1909. I borrowed her book to compare the two.
The similarities were remarkable. The Folio Society artists do an amazing job designing each title page and illustration in the books.
The stories are identical in text and I enjoyed turning the pages of both books.
The bright and modern illustrations in The Folio Society copy have entertained my daughter but continue to have a very classic tone matching the original.
Although my daughter is just four years old, she loves to read with me. This year I plan to introduce our first chapter book. I remember my mom sitting on the edge of my bed every night reading Charlotte’s Web when I was a child. I would love to purchase a copy from The Folio Society to create a memory my daughter will also cherish.
With such a large selection of books, you are sure to find a gift for all the book lovers on your list! You just might end up selecting a few books for yourself too.
Connect with The Folio Society on Facebook and Twitter to learn about the newest books added to their growing collection.
