Moving into our new home several years ago I was most excited about decorating my daughter’s play room. The formal dining room area was the perfect space for a Dr. Seuss themed play room. I kept the decor simple and made everything myself. I purchased a used and slightly damaged The Cat in the Hat book online to make a banner and matching canvases. We recently transitioned the room from the Dr. Seuss play room to a Disneyland family game room simply because my daughter has outgrown the need for a space to keep all of her larger toys. If we ever need a themed room for a child again I will use The Cat in the Hat book page banner and DIY art.
The Cat in the Hat banner supplies:
- book (used and damaged books are great for this project)
- paper cutter
- sewing machine with zig zag stitch
- red thread
Remove the book pages from the book and cut into triangles using a paper cutter for clean straight edges. Stitch the triangles together with a sewing machine. Leave thread on each end for easy hanging.
*do not cut book title and end pages for banner; save to use for DIY art
The Cat in the Hat DIY art supplies:
- book
- paper cutter
- Mod Podge and brush
- (3) 11″x14″ blank canvas (I painted my canvases yellow before beginning the project)
The book has two pages with full pictures of the cat and a title page that you will use for the DIY art. Remove the pages from the cover and use a paper cutter to cut a straight edge on the side removed from the book. Use Mod Podge to secure the pages to canvas. Brush over the pages with Mod Podge several times. Allow to dry completely before hanging.
The easy book page banner and DIY art will be a great addition to your Dr. Seuss themed room or child’s reading area. I will be bringing the banner and art into my classroom later this week when we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday!
