If you’ve ever visited a Ripley’s Believe It of Not! museum or read one of their books, you know the collection of oddities, anomalies, and fantastic feats is like no other. For the first time, Ripley’s Believe It or Not is bringing a traveling exhibition to Arizona as part of their joint production with Science North. The stop at the Arizona Science Center is third in a nationwide touring exhibit. Guests get the opportunity to explore the amazing oddities while learning the science behind each piece.
I was invited to visit the exhibit before it opened to the public and was able to chat with Edward Meyer, the Vice President of Ripley’s Archives and Exhibits. Along with his team, he is responsible for hand picking all the incredibly unusual artifacts that appear in the museums and books. While talking to Edward I learned he has worked for Ripley’s from the summer he graduated college. It was his very first job and he thought he was applying to simply catalog cartoons. He had no idea that job would define his entire career.

The exhibition is full of many different pieces that will intrigue visitors of all ages. One of my favorite areas of the exhibit is the Bug Bistro where visitors can learn about how insects are prepared for human consumption.
Visitors can measure themselves against the world’s tallest man, Robert Waldrow, who grew to 8 feet 11 inches.
The life-size models of 10 of the world’s smallest vertebrate animals will keep you entertained as you search for the tiny animals.
My daughter’s favorite attraction was the life-size model of the prehistoric snake Titanoboa.
The Science of Ripley’s Believe It of Not! is sponsored locally by APS and The Arizona Republic. The exhibition is located on Level 3 of the Arizona Science Center in the Sybil B. Harrington Gallery. The exhibition is open February 10 – May 4, 2014. Tickets are $28.95 (adult), $25.95 (senior), and $21.95 (child). Tickets include general admission to the Arizona Science Center. Member exhibit tickets are $10 (adult) and $8 (child).
The Arizona Science Center is giving a Brie Brie Blooms reader a family four pack of tickets to the science center and Ripley’s exhibit. Good luck!
