Given the opportunity, my daughter would love to spend every afternoon in the kitchen baking with me. At just four years old she enjoys baking cookies and cupcakes and prefers to do all the mixing herself. Sometimes we make big messes and our creations don’t turn out as planned. But other times we are able to create some pretty tasty desserts together. Nestle recently sent me a no bake chocolate cream pie kit and I knew it would be the perfect activity for my daughter in the kitchen.
Nestle sent all SoFabCon attendees a box full of products including a Nestle® Carnation® Chocolate Cream Pie Kit.
The directions were very simple to follow and the kit included everything you need to make the dessert except butter and water.
The first step was creating the crust by adding the crust mix to melted butter.
My daughter was very excited to press the crust into the pie pan.
Next we made the filling by mixing the evaporated milk, water, and filling mix.
This was my daughter’s favorite part of the process! She loves using the mixer by herself.
We poured the filling over the crust. Then we made the topping by mixing the remaining evaporated milk, water, and topping mix.
By this time my daughter was covered in chocolate from all the taste testing.
After pouring the topping on the filling, we used a small amount of crust mix that we had set aside to the top for decoration. My daughter asked if we could shape the crust crumbs into a heart. I pulled out a cookie cutter to make the process easy. She held the heart shape on the top of the pie while I sprinkled the decorative topping. Then she swirled the remaining crust sprinkles around the heart.
We put the pie in the refrigerator and pulled it out after dinner for dessert. My daughter was so proud of herself!
Baking with my daughter was so much fun using the Nestle® Carnation® Chocolate Cream Pie Kit. Do you let your kids help bake in the kitchen too?
Awww! I love this so much! She is such a cutie, Heather!
