Introducing yourself to a new class of students and their parents at the beginning of the year isn’t difficult. But what do you do when you are a preschool teacher and have new students coming into your classroom throughout the entire year? A permanent teacher introduction board hanging in your classroom is a fun way for kiddos transitioning to your room and prospective students touring with their parents to get to know you.
I recycled a few items from home to make this easy teacher project.
Supplies
- large canvas (I spent just $2 on a 3′ x 4′ canvas painting at a thrift store)
- poster board
- burlap
- chalk cloth (available at most fabric stores, prep by completely covering with chalk and then wiping clean)
- binder clip
Tools:
- staple gun and staples
- hot glue gun and glue stick
Begin by stretching the poster board over the left third of the canvas. Cover the poster board with burlap. Staple the edges of the poster board and burlap to the back of the canvas along the wooden frame.
Next you are covering the other side of the canvas with chalk cloth. Using the same method, simply stretch the cloth over the canvas and staple the edges to the back of the canvas along the wooden frame.
The picture on the introduction board is hung on a binder clip. Use hot glue to attach the back of the binder clip to the burlap side of the board.
Hang your picture and add some fun facts to introduce yourself. I used chalk markers because they write easily on chalk cloth and can be erased with a wet cloth. I also printed a couple of bright labels and taped them to the board to add some color.
It’s easy to add fun facts, change themes, and alternate pictures. If you’re working with several teachers in your classroom, this would be a great way to introduce the team!
Do you have any fun facts about yourself to share on your teacher introduction board?
