Teaching Liberty and Freedom

With my oldest daughter in fourth grade, I’m seeing now more than ever that as parents we have a responsibility to teach our children concepts they are not learning in school classrooms. My daughter has attended a well respected and challenging charter school for the past few years. She is learning accelerated math, reads several years beyond her peers, loves to write and expresses herself creatively. We appreciate everything she learns at school but it’s those lessons we’ve taught at home that really make us most proud. At just nine years old, she’s on a youth competitive rock climbing team and has been the SeaWorld kid blogger for several years. But at only nine years old, the bigger concepts like liberty and freedom are not being learned in the classroom. Her history class experience has been stellar but she’s not coming home talking about the importance of the free market, bartering, inflation, production and entrepreneurship. This school year we are teaching liberty and freedom at home with a little help from The Tuttle Twins. But something she does not know is the foundation of basic principals and how these fundamental processes began.
