My husband and I just celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. Valentine’s Day is always a fun holiday for us because it falls two weeks between both our wedding anniversary and my birthday. February truly is the month of love in our home. We have been inseparable since meeting on a blind date 15 years ago. He had just moved to Arizona and I was still in college when we both were annoyed at the idea of a blind date set up by mutual friends. We laugh now knowing we both only went because we were being nice to the friends that set us up. Fortunately it was opposite of all those awful blind date stories you hear about. 15 years later we are very happy with two beautiful healthy daughters and a perfect blind date story. This year to celebrate Valentine’s Day I’m sharing sweet treats and American Greetings cards. The Dark Chocolate Cherry Brownies are easy to make and a great way to add some sugar to the special love celebration day. Our love story and the sweet brownies are a perfect gift “to the man who has my heart” and the American Greetings card couldn’t have said it better.
An adorable free American Greetings printable calendar reminded me we only have a couple of weeks left for Valentine’s Day shopping. I’ll be mailing cards to family too so that gives me less time to prepare packages before the holiday.
The dark chocolate cherry brownies are great for gifting to friends and neighbors. A plate of these heart shaped brownies will also make an appearance at my home for Valentine’s Day to treat my husband. The easy recipe uses a brownie mix, premade frosting and cherry gelatin. It really can’t get any easier to whip up a sweet treat.
Dark Chocolate Cherry Brownies Recipe
Ingredients:
- dark chocolate brownie mix
- ingredients to prepare brownies from package (egg, water, oil)
- white vanilla frosting
- chocolate frosting
- one small package cherry gelatin
Prepare brownies according to package instructions and cool. Mix 1/4 C hot water with cherry gelatin until smooth. Fold cherry gelatin into vanilla frosting and stir until fully mixed making a pink cherry frosting.
Pour the pink cherry frosting on the prepared brownies.
Warm the chocolate frosting and pour on top of cherry frosting. Use the back of a spoon to swirl the two frostings to create a marble look. The frosting should be the same thickness as the brownies.
Refrigerate until firm then use a heart cookie cutter to shape the brownies.
The layers of the dark chocolate cherry brownies make this a beautiful (and yummy!) sweet treat.
American Greetings Mobile/desktop wallpaper is keeping Valentine’s Day on my mind. With just a week to get my packages complete to send to out of town relatives, I stopped by the store to pick up cards.
Finding the perfect American Greetings card for my husband was easy and I found the most perfect hedgehog card for my mom! For the past three years my oldest daughter saved every dollar she received for gifts because she wanted to purchase a pet hedgehog. She saved almost $200 by the time the law changed and permitted hedgehogs in Arizona. In the meantime my mom was visiting my brother out of state and met the owner of a hedgehog farm. My mom purchased a baby hedgehog and brought it home for my daughter. She was ecstatic when my mom gifted her the new pet.
Our hedgehog, named Skittles because she has a very colorful personality, also loved the Valentine’s Day card we are sending my mom!
