My great grandmother cooked fabulous family meals. Her homemade biscuits were amazing and you could always count on the creamiest mashed potatoes for a dinner visit. She also made the best pies and cherry pineapple cobbler. It wasn’t until I was an adult myself that she shared her cobbler secret – it was a simple four ingredient dump cake with items she picked up on her weekly grocery run. Her biscuits and pies are an entirely different handmade story but I frequently make the dump cake for special family meals. Because we had a freezer full of freshly picked strawberries from our summer vacation in California, I altered the family recipe and swapped the pineapples for strawberries. The easy cherry strawberry cobbler is one your guests will not recognize as a quick four ingredient dump cake.
Easy Cherry Strawberry Cobbler Recipe
Ingredients:
- cherry pie filling
- yellow cake mix
- 1/2 C butter (one stick cut into small cubes)
- 2 C fresh strawberries (washed, stems removed, chopped)
Spread strawberries in bottom of glass 9 x 13″ baking dish.
Then add cherries to top of strawberry layer.
Cover fruit with yellow cake mix and top with butter pieces. Try to place butter evenly over top of dessert or your cobbler will not bake evenly.
Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
Enjoy your easy cherry strawberry cobbler warm. It’s even better in the summer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
I never would have guessed my great grandmother saved time in the kitchen with a quick dump cake. What are your favorite dump cake ingredients?
