The magical Elf on the Shelf is a tradition in so many homes. Children look forward to their elf returning each year. Parents enthusiastically search the internet hoping to find the ultimate elf idea for each morning display. Parents also get ultra creative when they accidentally forget to move the elf before their child notices. We have many great elf success stories including the time our “Elfy Snow White” took a vacation instead of returning to the North Pole. Naturally that meant he didn’t move from his place in our home for three days. Makes perfect sense. The time our elf couldn’t make it back to the North Pole because of bad weather is a personal favorite. This year, like many other parents, I’m vowing to make sure our elf moves daily. My oldest daughter is almost seven years old and surely starting to consider maybe the elf isn’t as real as she once believed. With that in mind, yesterday I pulled off the ultimate elf idea to secure her belief in the elf’s magic for many more years. With the help of two complimentary Shari’s Berries Grand Gingerbread Chalets, my daughter was amazed by her elf’s debut this year. The Elf on the Shelf is real!
Our elf is known for making messes. His annual debut is usually epic and this year tops all the rest. He had some fun in our kitchen baking a beautiful gingerbread house for my daughter to discover in the morning.
The Grand Gingerbread Chalet smelled wonderful and was perfectly decorated with candy canes, jelly beans, and sprinkles. It is everything you would imagine in the perfect gingerbread house. My daughter definitely would have called my bluff if I decorated my own house for this stunt. Years of failed gingerbread houses has taught her the only capable person of baking and decorating a house this perfect in our home is the elf.
As expected she was amazed by the morning surprise.
But that amazement quickly turned to curiosity and she wanted to know exactly how the elf baked the gingerbread house. She looked through our pantry, taste tested the house, and ultimately pulled the roof off looking for an indication of a store purchase. She played along but her skepticism was obvious.
It wasn’t until hours later that the real magic happened. She went on a quick last minute grocery shopping trip with me, still in her pajamas, an hour before we were going to Thanksgiving dinner at her grandparents’ home. While we were out my husband cleared her gingerbread house mess and replaced it with a second Grand Gingerbread Chalet. Her response was priceless and we have a few more years of her believing the elf on the shelf is real!
