We have the best family dog full of personality. Our Sophie is hilarious and definitely adds to the fun in our home. She’s a Siberian Husky and reminds us everyday she is in charge. With the perfect Arizona spring weather in full force we are spending quite a bit of time at the park. Playtime and picnics are regular after school activities during this season. Sophie loves to join us and usually ends up soaking wet from laying in the wet grass while our daughters play at the playground. I came up with the perfect solution – a DIY wet ground blanket for pets. Sophie was extra excited for our park playdates with two surprises, her blanket and PEDIGREEĀ® Pouches from Walmart. Treating and eating on the go is a lot easier with the pouches and Sophie won’t be coming home wet because of her new blanket.

I’ve shared often how Sophie is the pickiest eater in our family. From the time she was a puppy she decided plain dry food was not for her. We’ve spoiled her and every meal comes with a mix in. PEDIGREEĀ® Pouches are great toppings and help us convince Sophie to also eat her PEDIGREEĀ® Dry Complete Nutrition. The pouches come in several flavors and the variety pack features three so we can continue to surprise Sophie with new flavors.

The wet ground blanket is great for the park when the grass is wet or just lounging by our pool.

Supplies:

  • Oversized Plush Throw (50″ x 70″)
  • Vinyl Table Pad (52″ x 90″)

All supplies were purchased at Walmart so no craft store stop is required!

Pin the throw and vinyl together with the vinyl side out. The vinyl table pad is slightly larger than the throw so simply trim the vinyl after you’ve pinned the blanket together.

Stitch around the blanket edges and remove pins. The throw already has finished edges and the vinyl will not fray so your wet ground blanket for pets is done!

Sophie decided her blanket was perfect for sitting next to the pool.

The weather was great for dinner outside so Sophie didn’t come in to eat. I gave her a bowl of PEDIGREEĀ® Dry Complete Nutrition Chicken topped with PEDIGREEĀ® Pouches Beef, Bacon and Cheese Flavors. The easy tear pouch has no messy leftovers and is an easy treat to bring along to the park.

  1. What a great idea. Our dog passed last summer :(, but he always ate Pedigree. When we adopted him, the shelter told us that’s what he liked, so that is what we always got him.

  3. What a thoughtful and quick DIY. Cannot wait to add a furry friend to our lives in the next couple of years… will definitely make one of these for him or her when that time comes.

  4. You dear Sophie is so cute! We don’t have a pet but I have a lot of friends who are dog-owners and I should share this.

  5. Sophie is such a beautiful dog!! I’ve always wanted a Siberian Husky – maybe one day when I live further up north. For now, I’ll just make do with my picky eater kitty lol. Glad you found something your own little picky eater likes! ^^ I too spoil my pet like crazy!

    • My husband has loved Huskies forever because he graduated from UCONN. We live in Arizona and get a lot of questions about how we can have this “snow dog” in the hot desert. We found a local breeder and our Sophie has a long line of family born in Arizona. She actually does great in the heat and loves spending lazy summer days on our cool kitchen tile.

  6. That blanket is really nice. I’m sure our fur baby will love it when I make this for him. I sure would love to try that food as well, I’m sure he’s going to go crazy for it!

  7. What a great idea! So many times we go to the park and the sprinklers have just been on. The dogs don’t mind it when they are running around but are not particularly fond of laying on wet grass.

    • We have the same thing happening at our park. Sophie loves to run in the wet grass and play but will not calm down in wet grass. This blanket is a great easy solution!

  8. This is such a great idea. My dog has two blankets and two beds. He likes to be covered up with his blanket at night, lol. He doesn’t have one for outside and I often find him laying on the grass, which is fine except I never know what he might lay on.

  9. That is such a great idea. I guess I could use it for a picnic at the park since I don’t have a pet, but works perfectly for that purpose as well. Thank you for sharing

  10. I absolutely love this idea! We do not have dogs (although my sister has three and you can bet I’ll be sending this her way!), but I have a toddler, and this would be perfect for going outside when it’s sunny but the grass hasn’t quite dried, for the pool, even for vacation! I’m going to have to make one of these. Thanks so much for the tutorial!!!
