Our Siberian Husky, Sophie, is the best family pet. She is 10 years old and has been both our daughters’ closest and most best playmate. She plays dress up, participates in crafts, is the softest pillow, loves to snuggle, knows how to play hide and seek, always makes sure everyone in our family is safe and just makes our house happier. She listens very well and was the shining star in her puppy class over 9 years ago. She learned how to do all kinds of fun tricks in addition to the basic puppy training necessary for us to understand her dominating personality. The one thing Sophie never mastered, because SHE never wanted to, was stay. This gorgeous amazing husky will still, at 10 years old, run away the second she spots an opportunity. It could be on a family walk or out the front door when someone rings the doorbell. It could be because a landscaper opened our back gate just a bit too wide or because she realized little sister isn’t the best at walking her to the car. We have many stories where Sophie ran away for hours and then just showed back up on our doorstep after we frantically looked everywhere for her. She’s smart, conniving, and thinks she is in charge in our home. Luckily we just learned about the Robin K Bennett’s Raising Your Puppy™ online dog training course. The online dog training program is designed for puppies but has also been a great resource to help us navigate through continuing to learn how to show our Sophie she is not always in charge and can’t simply run away when she feels like a day out of the house by herself.
The Raising Your Puppy™ online dog training course provides ongoing guidance, tips and advice for every week of development from 8 weeks to 6 months of age. It is an excellent refresher for an older dog like our Sophie. With your membership you also receive online access to over 100 short video tutorials covering all aspects of training your puppy along with access to an exclusive Facebook group where other community members and dog owners can converse about challenges and share success stories. I’m happy to report I’m not the only dog mommy that has an older dog that likes to go on own her own private adventures.
Sophie has a very sweet temperament but is also fiercely protective of our daughters. When our oldest daughter was a baby, Sophie would sleep at her nursery door every night of her first year. Now with little sister, she is just as caring and always makes sure our girls are safe and happy.
The dog training class is very easy to navigate and lets you move through the courses on your own time. In our case, I’ll say on Sophie’s time. Every dog is different and needs different levels of reinforcement so this great course is an excellent way to effectively cover everything from getting your home ready for your new puppy to tricks as your puppy grows.
Sophie has mastered everything we’ve taught her. She knows all the basics including walking with a lead, sitting, staying and so much more…until you walk away.
We never walk her without a leash and even the most basic activities where she would enjoy playing without a leash never happen. We’d love to take her to the dog beach in San Diego during our many family visits but haven’t yet because we know she would run away.
We have gone through all of the Raising Your Puppy™ online dog training course chapters and will be revisiting those where Sophie could use some reinforcement. My only regret is not knowing about this great dog training program before spending so much on our puppy training when we first brought Sophie home.

The online dog training course is something I definitely recommend for all families considering bringing home a new puppy and for those that have an older dog that would benefit from refresher some of the skills they learned years ago as a puppy. The course is great for children to follow along and help in the training process too.

Such a beautiful puppy! Puppy training is definitely important because it can be so stressful with the potty training and obedient training as well. Getting help is good!!
I wonder if the going on their own adventure is a Husky thing. My parents Husky happily takes advantage of any opportunity to go play in the woods on her own. She is about the same age as Sophie so you would think these older ladies would rather stay home and enjoy their soft beds and favorite people. Glad you found something to help re-train her so that you don’t have to worry about her getting out.
Your puppy is beautiful. What a great option to have an online training program to use with they family! Thanks so much for sharing.
puppies are so much fun, but a lot of work. Once you get them trained, it makes life so much easier! It’s a good thing they are cute!
We have two dogs and I can remember how hard it was to train them. I would love to get a new pup but just know how much work it is. I think an online course is a great idea!
Such cute photos of your kids with their Sophie! Will need to share this with my sister in law, they really could use this.
My mom just got a new puppy and it has been really difficult. This sounds like a great course.
Omg what a beautiful fun baby you have!!! So convenient to train your dog online!!!! I will have to share this with my mom since she just got a new puppy last month 🙂
I hope that your sweet Sophie gets to go play at the dog beach in San Diego soon! What a fun reward for completing her training. 🙂
It’s an absolute must-have. Among all the course out there, this is one of the best. It gives a personal approach with Robin and puppy in the video, watching how each training session works.
I also love all the printouts that Robin provides for review and education. It’s never too much to learn about our furry friends.
