My Pure Love: Raising Confident Daughters

Parenthood is not easy with a long list of dos and don’ts. Our daughters are six years apart and I feel so much has changed with our parenting style between our oldest and her little sister. What has not changed is my confidence as a parent. While every mom is different, I’m proud to declare I am the best mom I can be. I am raising confident daughters growing up knowing they can be anything they want to be and it’s amazing to watch their own passions develop. They have very different personalities but one thing they always agree on is their shared loved for Mac & Cheese and milk. You can thank their awesome momma for teaching them about lunchtime staples too. DairyPure and KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese are working together to share why it should feel good to serve your family one of America’s most iconic meals: Mac & Cheese with milk. Thanks to The Motherhood for sponsoring this post and asking me to start a conversation about where you find your pure love.

Raising confident daughters is where I found my pure love.

Years ago when I was laid off from work while on maternity leave with my oldest daughter I was devastated. I had allowed work to define me and the vision of my own purpose. It wasn’t easy looking past the life change but I also had a new baby I was very much excited to be able to stay at home with. I navigated my way through being a new mom and enjoying the time I had with our daughter. The small dent in my career soon paved the roadway for me to explore other career opportunities and eventually led to where I am today, working from home and soaking up every minute I have with our daughters while they are young. My daughters have very different appetites, our oldest has always been a picky eater and the other lights up with excitement when she hears dinner is ready. The one thing they can both agree on is their favorite meal – Mac & Cheese with a glass of milk. The easy to prepare kitchen staple is perfect for our busy days and adds to our family time sitting at the dinner table together.

Our oldest daughter is just eight years old and regularly shares how she is making a difference. She is the SeaWorld guest kid blogger and loves working with animals. At just eight she has already done amazing things I would never dream of doing at her age. Rescuing a sea lion from the beach last summer tops her list of most proudest moments. Her dad would say it’s playing hockey and being invited to join a competitive rock climbing team as their youngest member. For me, I’m most proud of her self proclaimed title as best big sister.

Little sister loves her pets at home, asking for a beach day and borrowing her big sister’s toys while she’s at school during the day. She is shadowing her sister’s levels of awesome and will do amazing things too.

Both our daughters make us so proud and have shown us so many moments of pure love. If you asked them where they find pure love, the list would be long but definitely would include when mom makes Mac & Cheese. Shhhh, don’t tell them it’s because I know it’s making them strong and healthy.

As a work at home mom I find great joy in the moments I spend with my daughters. Little sister is the sweetest after her afternoon nap with bedhead asking for a glass of milk. She runs out of her room, hugs me, says hello to our dog and cats, then says, “milk please.” The afternoon routine is one I’ll surely miss when she goes to school in a few years.

  3. Thank you for this insightful post. I raised a confident daughter who has to build herself up every day due to our society not appreciating girls with leadership skills. We’ve come a long way but have a long way to go!

  4. Our confidence can be busted when challenges come our way but we definitely grow out of it and become a better version of ourselves. That’s exactly how we want our daughters to be as well.

  5. Oh my god I love the pictures of your little ones, how adorable are they! They must love you so much:) And definitely agree on giving your kids proper milk – I can’t grasp that some people think we shouldn’t be drinking milk at all. x

  6. I love what you say about raising confident girls, exactly what is needed in this world and oh so challenging when the messages out there are all about how we are not enough. Mac and cheese — still a favorite comfort food of mine!!

  7. I have six daughters – each one very different from the next in so many ways. I’ve tried to raise them to be strong and confident, and teach them to use their minds and voices for good, and now as they are going out into the world, they are all making me so proud.
