After a fun spring break family vacation, we are back home enjoying the awesome Arizona weather in my favorite season. We travel often to California but that road trip was especially great because we were well prepared with family road trip data. We maxed our tax cash and purchased a new Samsung Galaxy On5 with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan including Unlimited* Talk, Text, & Data plus a free VUDU movie credit every month per line (*Includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE†data then 2G). Having that extra data made the six hour drive to California feel easy. Last week we used our first free VUDU movie credit for an easy family movie night. Our oldest daughter enjoys the movie theater but it’s been almost two years since our family was able to see a movie in the theater together. Her little sister isn’t quite old enough to enjoy the theater experience so instead, we’re using the free monthly movie credit for movie nights at home.
A lit marquee and snack station full of treats, popcorn and silly drink cups gave our family movie night a real theater feel. I made a backdrop with red and yellow vinyl tablecloths like the one I made for our first birthday mermaid party. The table also featured popcorn bags and bins so everyone could easily carry their snacks to a favorite living room seat.
Having a free VUDU movie credit every month per line means we can have family movie nights at home often. The Walmart Family Mobile plan is a great investment with our tax refund because it will continue to give back all year. We purchased the Samsung Galaxy On5 (retail price of $119 but currently on rollback for $69!), $19.88 SIM Kit, and $49.88 monthly plan. Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up.
For our family the movie theater experience is all about the snacks so I made a quick concession stand with a chalkboard easel. I printed “SNACKS” then transferred it to the chalkboard by tracing the back of the paper with white chalk. Then I traced the letters with a chalk marker.
The snack stand was filled with favorite theater treats: M&M’s, Skittles and Starburst.
If you follow me on Snapchat, you saw the fun we had popping popcorn before our family movie night. Our youngest daughter loved watching as it popped and couldn’t wait to fill her bag to cuddle on the couch with her big sister.
Silly straws are fun but cups with straw handles are even better. I made punch for the cups and placed them on our snack station table so everyone could pick their favorite colored lid.
Small organization bins are perfect to carry all your movie night snacks to the couch. Each family member had their own bin with favorite treats, popcorn and drink.
At just eight, our oldest daughter, loves snapping photos. The family movie night popcorn and M&M’s mix is definitely worthy of landing a spot on the camera roll.

Enjoy monthly movie nights with your family!
We love family movie nights in our house. We try to have one a week, but that doesn’t always work out with our busy schedules 🙂
I try to avoid sticking to a committed schedule because that usually just leads to disappointed kids when unexpected events arise. My daughters are always excited by a family movie night surprise!
We love family movie nights too. That is a great spread of snacks you have there too.
Thanks! Popcorn and boxed treats are perfect for family movie nights.
We love family movie nights. Yours looks way better than ours though Haha. I’m sure your kids had a blast.
Most nights it’s a pizza and blanket fort – it’s not always so pretty! But that doesn’t matter to little girls making awesome memories.
Can I come over to your next family movie night? What a sophisticated and fun vibe you have going on!
Thanks, I love the classic red and white striped popcorn bags!
If I had a family of my own I would love to do movie nights as I think it is a great way of bonding together. I love how you have created the movie night x
Thank you! It is a great way for my daughters to spend time together.
Loving this family movie night basket idea. So very cute. Can’t wait to do this on my own! I’ve been hearing about this sharing plan quite a bit as well.
Thank you! Those little organization bins make a huge difference for my daughters because they feel like they have their own snacks. Big sister has to share everything with the baby so it’s nice for her to have some space (even though they are all smushled together on the couch for movie nights!).
Good to hear that you had fun during your road trip. I always wnjoy movie night with my kids at home and it’s a must to have snacks! This is such a lovely setup and I’m sure the kids always habe a great time.
Thank you! Our girls love family movie nights at home with plenty of snacks and their pick of movie!
What a fun family movie night. It like being at the cinema.
Thanks! My oldest daughter is expressing she’s a little annoyed we can’t go to the theater as often because of her baby sister so this is the next best thing!
What a fun family night!
Thanks, nights in are our family favorites!
My boys love those cups with the straw handle. We love having movie nights. In fact we just had one last night. A pizza picnic in the living room too!
Pizza picnics for family movie nights are the best! My daughters love making forts to go with our pizza nights.
Wow talk about upping movie night! This looks so fun! We do movie nights every week and I love this idea! The cups will be a weekly fav!
Thank you! Our daughters love those cups and they are so much better than just silly straws for a family movie night!
I love how you used the chalk board to put the snacks on it! What a cute idea! We love Family Movie Night and usually do it once a week!
I use that chalkboard easel for so many fun parties at our house!
This is great! I love the way you used the easel and the organization bins as snack trays. That is such a good idea with little ones. Thanks for the ideas! #client
Thanks Stephanie! The organization bins make a huge difference and help our daughters keep their snacks off the couch.
I remember having family movie night every Sunday evening. It was never as well set up or cute as your families, though! I love how you have everything on display. Now if only picking a movie was so easy..
I really don’t recall having family movie nights as a child but I know my mom has a great Disney VCR tape collection! I’m happy to be making these memories with our young daughters.
How fun! We have an easel like that and I would have never thought to use it in that way. Pass the popcorn!
Funny story about that easel – a neighbor had it out for bulk trash a few years ago. I hesitated but after a few drive bys finally stopped and knocked on their door. They welcomed us taking it home and we have loved it ever since!
We are trying to get into a family movie night rhythm, our kids are now big enough to want to sit through one which is nice! Love the snack display!
Our youngest usually doesn’t make it through the entire movie – which makes me feel very relieved about having these nights at home instead of trying to bring her to the theater!
Super cute ideas, Mom! Looks like it was a fun movie night 🙂 We usually watch a movie on Fridays and Saturdays.
We don’t have a set day in our home but it’s always a welcomed surprise for our daughters.
This is brilliant. I love the idea of making movie night an event. Not only is it fun, but also helps prepare kids for when they can go to the theater.
Excellent point, I’m sure these fun family movie nights are preparing our youngest for the right expectations when we do take her to the theater.
This is the cutest!!!! I love the popcorn bags and the candy that you got! Everything is set up so fun! Glad to see you had a good time and saved money!
Thanks! The popcorn bags make it feel so much more special for my daughters.
I love family movie night! We often have popcorn or ice cream as we settle in for a new movie.
Ice cream is a loved family movie night treat at our house too!
I love how all of the colorful snacks are set up on the chalkboard easel. Free movies are the best…I need to take more advantage when one comes my way.
Thanks, the chalkboard easel is a great way to display snacks for family movie nights!
Love your movie night set up! I admit we do movie nights bigtime here, we splurged on a projector a few years ago so it’s literally like the movies when we watch tv or a movies.
We have a projector too and when it’s warm enough, love pool movie nights in our backyard!
I love family movie nights – they’re probably my favourite activity! We usually go to the store and pick a snack each so we’ve all got something to munch on throughout the films
Great idea to let your children pick their own snacks!
I love a family movie night, but it’s so hard to find a movie that appeals to different ages. I love how colorful your display is!
Thanks! I do agree that it’s tough to find a movie we all can agree on. Lately it’s been animated movies but that’s because we usually let little sister pick.
We do family movie night every other week. Love the way this helps bond us closer together
That’s awesome! It is a great way to have the family spend time together.
