A New Approach to Food
We all grow up believing different versions of food science. What we should and shouldn’t eat, when to eat, how to each, and how much to eat are learned behaviors in what makes up our individual beliefs on food. My entire young adulthood, I’ve been fixated on different food beliefs and at times, obsessive, on different focuses. Baby number two, and well into my 30’s, gave me a different perspective because my body started reacting to food differently. I’ve spent the last five years exploring different initiatives for lifestyle changes. Each have resulted in me returning to not so awesome food habits and exploring new ways to change the relationship and my views on food. With nothing but time on my hands over the last couple of months, I’ve been reading and learning about a new three-phase plan, Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing what I learned as I read the book and follow the meal suggestions.
I’ve been reading and learning about the three-phase plan, Always Eat After 7 PM by Joel Marion, for a new approach to food. Follow along and learn with me.
If this pandemic has shown me anything, it’s that I do need to take the appropriate time for myself to learn how to rely on mindful habits and not lean on food to navigate stress. I also know I have no interest in fully cutting out all the foods I love so the Always Eat plan just might be a perfect fit. Bestselling author, Joel Marion, is a fitness expert and nutritionist debunking the myths underlying traditional dieting and offers a simple, highly effective weight loss program.
I heard pancakes, muffins, chocolate peanut butter, thai chicken wraps, pizza, salted caramel bars and more – yes, please. All these recipes are included in the book and I’ve enjoyed having updated options while not losing my normalcy of comfort foods while our entire family has been confined to home during the stay in place orders.
The most challenging times to curb hunger are just before bed and in the morning. By following the Always Eat After 7PM program, you have the most willpower to stay on the diet because you are eating during the hours when you are most hungry. This also puts you into both intermittent fasting increasing testosterone and your metabolism, while putting you into ketosis.
Research shows that the average person’s metabolic rate is no different during sleep than during the day. In short, your metabolism doesn’t slow down at night. Nor does your body store fat at the end of the day. Whether it’s 8 am or 8 pm, you use food for energy the same way.
The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.

Has being home for the past couple of months changed your eating habits?
I will have to look into this book. I hadn’t heard about eating so late before.
That thought process is new to me too!
This is very interesting. It sounds very strange but also reasonable.
After reading the science behind it, I’m totally onboard!
7pm is my reference time for dinner. I would say that before or after you really risk going to compromise the right food rhythms.
Totally makes sense, we generally eat dinner later as well simply because our family schedules are all over the place.
Definitely revolutionary and opposite to everything we have learned! I want a copy of this book for sure!
Awesome, it’s a great read from a science perspective!
This books sounds fantastic. I regularly work late in to the day and need to hear this message.
Awesome, I’m pretty excited to learn about this too.
Eating late in the night leaves the body on a ‘high alert’ state, which interferes with the circadian rhythm. It also prevents our body from powering down. If on the other hand, food is taken earlier, it is not only digested better, you sleep well and wake up energised too.
Definitely appreciate your insights. I’ve learned quite a bit through this book and appreciate the recipes for mindful eating with healthy ingredients.
LOved this book it is quite helpful and much informative for everyone… staying healthy is the best way to keep yourself safe from everything…i have heard a lot from everyone about this book and as now it is on trending…thanks for this review…
That’s awesome, so many friends are reading it right now! I’ve seen great reviews of the included recipes.
I have to see this book perspective of eating late I don’t usually eat that late thanks for sharing this
It’s definitely different than what we’ve been taught our entire lives!
I have seen a lot of buzz about this approach, and it all seems super positive! Honestly, we need to enjoy our lives and trying to stick to a super restrictive diet takes that joy away as far as our food is concerned for most people. No wonder we don’t stick with it! A plan like this that incorporates the fun foods that bring us joy, that I can get behind!!
Love the enjoy our lives mantra – if it doesn’t make us feel good, why do it?
I am glad i found this. I always eat late…Now i have something to show people when they tell me to eat early..LOL
oh wow! i haven’t head of eating so late before! i will have to check out the book. it sounds strange but reasonable
