#Sponsored Thank you Harper Collins Children’s Books for sponsoring this post. Join me as I participate in this month’s #ICanReadathon!
My husband and I started reading children’s books aloud each night while I was pregnant with our now five year old daughter. The books we read throughout my pregnancy were some of our daughter’s first favorite books as an infant. Reading to children early is a proven way to establish a love for reading and book appreciation. Harper Collins, the well known book publisher, established their I Can Read! book series to help children develop early reading skills with favorite characters. For several years, my daughter has been on a journey learning to read with Pinkalicious.
My daughter was just two years old when she had memorized the Pinkalicious book we had been reading to her for the past couple of years. Each night before bedtime I read to her and before she was old enough to read on her own, books were part of our nightly routine.

The I Can Read! books have color coded levels helping parents easily decide which books are best for their children.
Other characters featured in the I Can Read! books include Amelia Bedelia, Danny and the Dinosaur, Frog and Toad, Little Bear and new favorite picture book characters like Pete the Cat and Fancy Nancy.
This month as part of the global I Can Readathon, my five year old daughter pledged to read every day to proudly say, “I Can Read!”. Making the commitment to read with my daughter daily from an early age has given her the confidence to read to me each night this month. Visit the I Can Readathon website for activities and a free reading log.

I’m a pre-k teacher and know the importance of building confidence in children. Positive praise, even during pretend play, is so important while children are learning to read. I’ve also realized my daughter is more apt to pick up a book instead of a toy when there are book selections available at her reach. The same goes for in the classroom. I previously built a milk crate book storage and reading bench for my classroom to encourage reading during free choice play time. The bench was later moved to our play room and my daughter enjoyed learning to read in a comfy reading area.
Harper Collins is giving away a set of five I Can Read! books to a lucky Brie Brie Blooms reader. The giveaway is a great opportunity to help your child grow a love for reading while learning with their favorite book characters.
