We have a long list of friends and family that love to travel on our holiday gift list this year. I have a few DIY projects to complete and then I will be turning to Alamo®’s top 10 gifts for travelers to finish my gift list. Our travels often and always result in bringing home souvenirs. We have thousands of maps, travel brochures, guides, tickets, parking passes and more saved in memory books and photo albums. This holiday season I’m revisiting those albums to make travel souvenir bookmarks for our family to remind them of our favorite weekend getaways. Travel Souvenir Bookmarks are a great way to save your vacation memories without damaging or cutting any of those precious souvenirs. They can be made using a photo collage printed on your home computer!
The traveler’s gift guide from Alamo’s Scenic Route is a great resource for gift ideas this holiday season. After shopping online for fun, fashionable and functional gifts from the guide, I encourage you to spend just an hour making family travel souvenir bookmarks! The bookmarks can include anything from theme park tickets to personal photos and other flat items that will scan on your home printer. My oldest daughter really likes to read, so I’ll be gifting her a few new books with the travel souvenir bookmarks tucked inside.
Travel Souvenir Bookmarks
Supplies:
- Flat travel souvenirs
- Laminating sheets and laminator or contact paper
- Hole punch
- Double sided tape
- Ribbon or strip of material from a travel souvenir (we used the ribbon from a theme park balloon)
Open your printer and place travel souvenirs on the scanner. Don’t spend much time arranging the souvenirs – they are supposed to be in a collage format and it’s OK if there’s overlap so you cannot see everything perfectly. Print a color copy then rearrange items and print again.
Cut the printed souvenir pages into bookmark size strips. The standard size of a bookmark is about 2” x 6.5” but varies slightly.
Use double sided tape to hold two bookmark pieces together with the image facing the outside. Laminate, trim around bookmark, then add hole to the top with your hole punch.
*If you don’t have a laminator at home, secure with contact paper instead.
Tie on ribbon or fabric piece and your travel souvenir bookmarks are complete! Gift with a travel guide or a related book.
Alamo’s Scenic Route includes a collection of travel stories, guides and advice to help inspire creative memory making during your next getaway. My easy travel souvenir bookmarks are a great gift idea for a travel partner or your own family but because I have many friends that love to travel, I’m turning to Alamo’s guide for the best gifts for travelers and travel lovers to help finish up my holiday shopping.

That is really a super cute idea! I have maps and tickets from all over from our vacations.
Such a fun idea! I love it! I’ll have to definitely try this! We travel a lot, so I have tons to work with!
I think it’s a lovely gift for travelers! It’s definitely something that they can use and keep! It’s not difficult to make either, so that’s a huge plus for me!
What a great idea. I now know what to do with all the paper souvenir stuff from Europe and Disney. I see some crafting in the future.
These are all great gift ideas. I have a few people in mind who would like some of the keepsakes I’ve picked up on my travels!
This is perfect for my husband. He hates to throw anything away because he gets sentimental about everything. Plus, he loves books! So I think he would get really excited about something like this.
This is such a cute idea. I have so many travel souvenirs that could be used for this.
I can honestly say I’ve never seen travel souvenirs like this before! We had so many growing up. Adorable!
This is such a great way to keep something special from the trip but not just have a useless box of brochures. I love it!
What a cool idea! I have a ton of travel souvenirs and I have been planning to do a scrap book, but this is a really cool idea!
What a fun idea. These make a great companion to travel guides and are a nice way to commemorate a recent trip, event, or special place.
