We had an unusually warm summer and I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for most of the last few months. Grillgating is back! I grew up with my dad being a huge Emmitt Smith fan so it’s pretty awesome that he’s sharing grill recipes and challenging you to share your photos and experiences too with #GrillGatingHero. Your photo could end up on the Grillgating website and (fingers crossed!) catch the eye of Emmitt himself. Kingsford® Charcoal and Dr Pepper® are both great additions to your entertaining plans but when paired together they create a recipe for a TOUCHDOWN. You know, the perfect kind of recipe to share at your next tailgating party now that we are finally back in football season! My Dr Pepper Ranch Burgers are exactly what our weekend needed and this recipe will surely be on repeat this fall at our house. Featuring hamburgers marinated in Dr Pepper then smothered in Hidden Valley® Ranch Dressing, you’re going to want to pick up everything you need at Walmart while out on your normal Grillgating grocery run. Let’s make this easy, I already made your shopping list for you: Kingsford® Charcoal, RITZ Crackers, Dr Pepper, Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing and Glad® Press’n Seal for leftovers if you’re lucky enough to have any.
Our portable charcoal grill is just the right size to bring along to tailgate parties or use in our own backyard.
We served our burgers with RITZ crackers and Dr Pepper Cherry for the ultimate football kickoff party.
Dr Pepper Ranch Burgers Recipe
Ingredients:
- Dr Pepper marinated burgers
- Hamburger buns
- Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Prepare burgers by marinating overnight in Dr Pepper. Shape hamburger patties and place in glass casserole dish. Then fully cover raw patties in Dr Pepper.
Cover dish with Glad Press’n Seal and place in refrigerator for several hours.
Dr Pepper Ranch Burgers are best when cooked on a charcoal grill with Kingsford® Charcoal.
My husband usually is in charge of the grill but I handled these burgers myself. The charcoal grilling experience is easy when you’re equipped with the right tools…and confidence. I have two younger brothers that are magic makers on the grill. Luckily my middle brother chatted me through using the charcoal grill by myself and had me feeling like maybe one day I can wow them with my grill skills too. Oh I can, this SUNDAY with these amazing Dr Pepper Ranch Burgers!
Take the burgers directly from the grill to the bun on your plate and add as much Ranch dressing as your little heart desires. I am a big fan of Hidden Valley Ranch and grew up with it in our kitchen.
Serve with a cold Dr Pepper Cherry and RITZ crackers before the game starts.
Will you be Grillgating this weekend too?

I NEVER would have thought to pour Dr. Pepper over hamburgers. Now I’m really curious what it tastes like! Interesting idea!
OMG those look so delish! I would never have thought of that! And…a charcoal grill? I haven’t used one of those in years! I can still remember the smokey flavors! I might have to find a small charcoal grill and make some myself! 🙂
I have never tried marinating meat in a sweet soda but I would like to try it. My husband loves cooking on our grill so I will see if the kids want to try their burgers with ranch dressing.
I can’t get enough burgers this summer. What a great recipe, I will have to try this labor day weekend!
This looks crazy good and I cannot wait to try this! We tailgate a lot and I think this will have to be on the menu at least once.
That burger is everything! It looks so good and I’m sure it tastes amazing too. I love that it’s not difficult to prepare at all and I’m sure the whole family will enjoy this one.
My husband does all of our grilling, so I will have to send this to him! It looks delicious! Dr. Pepper is always great to cook with. I have used it in crock pot pulled pork in the past and it turned out amazing.
It’s way too early for me to be wanting a burger but let me tell you, this looks delicious and I’m sure my husband would be game for making these this weekend.
Yum! I have made a roast with soda but not burgers! These look delicious and a must try for sure!
OH I am saving this recipe! My husband and I were just talking about how we should try to make our own burgers!
My oldest is a huge dr. Pepper fan as is my husband…. They would love these. I will have to try them out! They look good!
I don’t like drinking Dr Pepper, but I love cooking with it! My favorite is onions rings. (World’s easiest recipe: Dip onion slices in Dr Pepper, then in self-rising flour. Fry in hot oil. Crazy good.) I will definable give these burger a try!
Oh wow this looks so good! I would love to try this out for a delicious back to school recipe. I’m always looking for new easy dishes to try out on the fam!~
