My eight year old daughter has loved sea lions her entire little life. We visit SeaWorld San Diego very often where she’s learned so much about marine animals. She has grown from a toddler intrigued by sea lions to a girl with a deep passion for animal conservation with much credit given to our many SeaWorld visits. During a recent visit we experienced the new sea lions up-close tour, an incredible learning opportunity available to park guests. The tour provides a glimpse into the animal care unit and a one hour tour featuring behind the scenes access with animal care experts.
We’ve spent countless SeaWorld San Diego visits at Pacific Point learning about sea lions. As the SeaWorld guest kid blogger my daughter has years of educational experiences learning alongside the Sea Rescue team and the animal behavioralists that work everyday to teach visitors ways to help save the animals from challenges they face in the wild.
The new sea lions up-close tour is for guests six years of age and older. Reservations are required and children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The tour begins by checking in at the guided tours area near guest services.
During the tour guests learn about SeaWorld’s conservation efforts and how they rescue, rehabilitate and return hundreds of wild sea lions every year. Our tour guide, Josie, was very interactive and answered many questions during the sea lions up-close tour.
She gave us a behind the scenes look at the animal care center where thousands of injured and sick animals have been rehabilitated and given a second chance at life.
Then we visited Pacific Point to learn more about sea lions and seals. Tour guests had the opportunity to feed fish to the sea lions and hear fun facts like how to easily identify the differences between sea lions and seals.
Next we spent time with animal care specialists learning about the SeaWorld resident sea lions. Some of the sea lions and seals at the park are there because they were rescued in the wild and not able to safely return to their natural environment. Sea lions at SeaWorld help teach visitors how human activities may impact their survival in the wild. They also help make research possible that will continue to benefit sea lions. We met several different animals during the sea lions up-close tour and had the opportunity to assist the behavioralists. My daughter had an amazing time sharing this special tour with her grandma and giving a hands on learning opportunity advocating for why she plans to work with sea lions when she grows up.

See more about our experiences at SeaWorld San Diego and read why I still choose to support SeaWorld. A few of my favorite visits include my daughter learning that girls can be anything they want to be from Miss California and learning about a killer whale behavioralists’ first hand experience with whales.
Sea lions are so cool! Seaworld is a great day out for kids and parents alike. I must admit I struggled after watching Blackfish and was excited to hear that they were ending their killer whale program, but I do understand the important conservation and research work Seaworld do and I don’t believe their intention is ever coming from a cruelty to animals mindset. I think it’s wonderful that your daughter is a guest blogger for Seaworld and this up close tour looks amazing.
That is so cool. We went to Sea World when we were in San Diego and had so much fun! It’s a MUST-VISIT place in that area.
I love that you not only shared you trip with us but also shared some great information! I am all ready for my trip to seaworld!
I haven’t been to sea world in years. This looks like a very fun up close and personal event. I wonder if they have something like this at my local Six Flags discovery Kingdom?
