This year’s spring break visit to SeaWorld San Diego was extra special because we were there during SeaWorld’s Magic Weekends. Every weekend in March features different illusionists and magic themed fun in the park.
The headliner talents perform 25-30 minute shows, included with your park admission, at the Mission Bay Theater in the park. The weekend we visited featured Michael Grandinetti, an illusionist that has also been seen on NBC, Entertainment Tonight, ESPN and more. Our eight year old daughter looked forward to the show for months leading up to her spring break.
We arrived to the Mission Bay Theater early for the best seats.
The indoor air conditioned theater has comfortable seating with great views of the stage.
The impressive show included a wide range of illusions with audience participation. We’ll never know how the three guest volunteers’ rings ended up in a loaf of baked bread or how Michael swapped places with his assistant in the locked Houdini like contraption.
But as Michael instructed at the start to his show, it was a more enjoyable experience not trying to crack the illusion mysteries. Instead we sat back and watched in amazement as he appeared to float above the stage.
Are your children fascinated by illusions too?
SeaWorld’s Magic Weekends continue to delight and astound with fun through March.

See more about our experiences at SeaWorld San Diego and read why I still choose to support SeaWorld. A few of my favorite visits include my daughter learning that girls can be anything they want to be from Miss California and learning about a killer whale trainer’s first hand experience with whales.
That sounds like so much fun! I wish I lived closer to Sea World so I could go to this. It sounds like a blast.
It’s quite a road trip for us to get there but always so worth it! We love SeaWorld San Diego and visit often!
Sea World was one of my favorites when I was younger. I had a blast and I loved all the animals. I think I have a stuffed animal from there.
I think my daughters have about 30 stuffed animals from SeaWorld! 🙂 I grew up visiting SeaWorld San Diego too and always had a great time with my family.
Wow what a fun family experience! I had no idea they did magic shows there. Thanks for sharing 🙂
The illusion shows are only part of the Magic Weekends but SeaWorld always has something great going on. We are looking forward to next month’s food festival!
I haven’t been to sea world yet, but seems like you guys had a blast. I didn’t have any clue either that there are magic shows
Magic Weekends only happened in March this year but they have their awesome food festival coming up in April. I would love to visit for that! SeaWorld always has something fun happening.
Looks and sounds like such fun! I think it would be something my family would enjoy too!
It definitely was a great event for the entire family!
This sounds like a blast! We are about 6 hours from Sea World in Orlando, wonder if they have this too?
We are six hours from our closest park too! It’s definitely worth the drive and we visit often!
This looks so fun! I’ve been trying to plan a trip to San Diego with extended family and I forgot about SeaWorld!
Get SeaWorld San Diego back on your radar! They have so many awesome things planned for the summer!!!
I so wish there was a Sea World much closer to Chicago! We wet a number of years ago – to Texas, and my kids LOVED it so very much!!
We’ve only visited the San Diego park but I’m sure they are all awesome. My kids would be very disappointed if we weren’t just a road trip away from SeaWorld!
So cool! I love to watch illusionists but I’ve only ever seen a show on TV. It would be even more impressive to see it live and in person. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Seeing the show live was impressive and my eight year old daughter thought it was awesome!
Oh wow, this looks like so much fun!! It’s been nearly 2 years since I visited Sea World – I’m definitely going to try to go again this summer when I visit San Diego ^^
SeaWorld San Diego has so many awesome things coming up this summer! Definitely plan a visit when you’re there!
What an amazing weekend. This look awesome and a lot of fun. I would love to go back to seaworlds. xx
It really was tons of fun!
It’s interesting to think about going to sea world and watching illusions instead of seeing the creatures! Yet it definitely opens the realm of more things to do! Love the floating picture!
We had so much fun at Magic Weekends! We visit SeaWorld often and love the animals but this was a great unique experience in the park.
That sounds really fun! We used to have seaworld passes but we just don’t make it to the parks anymore haha. My kids are really into Universal stuff with Harry Potter right now, but my son has a magic set that maybe this could spark his interest.
We are also SeaWorld annual pass holders but we visit frequently. This spring break week we also visited Universal Studios because my oldest daughter was so excited about Harry Potter. Such fun!
Sea World has so much to offer and this is another great reason to visit. Love how they are trying new things.
We visit very frequently and I love that every time is unique. My daughters love the park.
I’ve never been to Sea World but now I want to! This looks like so much fun
SeaWorld is a great park to visit, definitely get it on your travel list!
I love this kind of family fun weekends! My little daughter is too young for the magic show but I can’t wait to take her to one. She’s so curious and I’m sure she’ll love the entertainment
Our youngest daughter is almost two and she was fascinated by the lights and movement on the stage.
My son has been fascinated by illusionists lately. That’s why something like this would totally be up his alley!
This really was a fun experience and not the usual activities we get to do at the park.
This looks like so much fun – a magic weekend indeed!! I would love to be able to do something like this with my family…
Our daughters LOVE visiting SeaWorld!!!
Oh this looks like so much fun! I’ve never been to Sea World and I LOVE magic so it would be extra exciting to be there during this event. Looks like you guys had a blast
