I have two daughters six years apart. As a first time parent there is the fear of not knowing what to expect but by the time baby #2 comes around, you can consider yourself a pro – unless those two babies are many years apart. In just six years I had forgotten everything I thought I new about bringing home a baby. I’m not talking basic survival skills here – of course I remember how to love and snuggle on a baby. But there’s more to it than just trying to soak up every sweet moment that new baby brings to your family. There were a few things I remembered that definitely helped prepare me for my first night home with our sweet baby girl. My baby tips for first night home are simple: take notes so you don’t forget your very first days at home with baby, plan a meal and remember to take care of yourself. You’re already out at Walmart purchasing diapers and other baby necessities, while you’re there make sure you pick up everything else you need to make it a great transition with the addition to your family. Preparation H® Medicated Wipes will help you take care of yourself and soothe some of those not so awesome parts about new mommyhood.
Getting ready for baby: tips for first night home
You need just a few supplies to help make your transition home with a new baby comfortable. Every baby is different and comes with a list of needs but there are some basic tools that can help your family have the best days when you bring home your new bundle.
- journal
- meal plan (a gift card to order pizza makes a great first night home dinner plan!)
- Preparation H® Medicated Wipes
The first year with our baby flew by and everyday I was amazed by the new memories we were making. The first time she met her big sister, that adorable #cutie onesie from a favorite blogger friend, the first car ride, sitting up, rolling over, family holiday photos – FLEW BY.
Journal
Already having a child, I knew how quickly this perfect time with a newborn at home would pass and unless I wrote everything down, I likely wouldn’t remember those favorite moments. A journal, pen and sparkly washi tape helped me jot down memories as they were being made. It’s nothing fancy and sometimes big sister picked up a pen and added to the journal too. This sweet book of memories will be forever cherished.
Meal plan
Every family is different and prepares for baby the way that works best for their dynamic. For us, we made sure we had plenty of restaurant gift cards for takeout. We redeemed points from credit cards for restaurant gift cards and picked up prepaid cards from Walmart to make sure we had a plan for the busiest of days. Were we eating out every night? Absolutely not. But those gift cards were a lifesaver on nights like the first one home with baby. If you’re gifting to a family with a new baby, use my printable card for first night home with baby.
Preparation H® Products
Having your first baby you only hear advice from other moms and maybe your doctor on what to expect following labor and delivery. While I had two fairly easy deliveries, the days following were not comfortable. Pregnancy can cause hemorrhoids in 1 out of 3 women. Having Preparation H® Products at home following delivery was an important piece of my recovery and feeling well to enjoy my baby. While the products are not something you will use during pregnancy, you should have them at home following delivery. Preparation H® Medicated Wipes provide effective hemorrhoid relief. They are convenient to use and soothe as they clean. For effective relief, add Medicated Wipes to your regimen to cool, soothe and cleanse before you treat.
I remember in the days leading up to baby sister’s due date, I went to Walmart daily purchasing baby supplies. Make a list to help you get ready for your first night home with baby.
