Oh hi, I’m just over here soaking up the final days of summer enjoying the same cold comfort food Oprah makes on her most stressful days. Of course I’m kidding, Oprah doesn’t have stressful days. Okay fine, maybe I just followed a Strawberry Sorbet recipe from Oprah Winfrey’s Food, Health, and Happiness Book but it’s so tasty I bet Oprah really does whip this up to enjoy at her home too. The Breville Smart Scoop arrived at our home a few weeks ago and we’ve been making homemade cold treats daily. It’s our favorite tool in the kitchen and by far, the best ice cream maker we’ve ever owned. You too friend, can sorbet like Oprah.

Every summer our family spends a week in Carlsbad, California. We travel often but that summer visit is the trip we look forward to most because of our many family traditions we’ve created over the years. Picking strawberries is a favorite activity and leaves us with plenty of fresh fruit for the entire week. We always pick more than we can possibly eat in a week and end up bringing them home to freeze.

Oprah’s Strawberry Sorbet recipe is a fabulous way to use the rest of our summer strawberries to make a treat the entire family can enjoy. This summer I cooked several excellent dishes from the recipes in Oprah’s cookbook. My favorite grilling and other food ideas for outdoor entertaining includes a delicious grilled asparagus with mimosa dressing from this same book. The book was created by Oprah’s favorite chefs and includes delicious, healthy, and easy to prepare recipes. Obviously you’ll love it as much as I do. The Strawberry Sorbet recipe is an awesome way to play with our new Breville Smart Scoop. This amazing ice cream maker is the first ice cream maker to automatically sense the hardness of the mixture based on your selection and keeps it ready until it’s time to serve. It makes frozen yogurt, sorbet, gelato and ice cream – every kid’s dream come true. My daughters are loving the ability to make cold treats at home with their own ingredients including those pretty strawberries we picked over the summer.

Sorbet sounds tricky, definitely not something I’ve ever tried to make in my own kitchen. But with a little guidance from Oprah and a fantastic ice cream maker, this treat is so easy to prepare. Simply blend ingredients in a high speed blender. Pour into the Smart Scoop, wait for the beep and you have the most yummy Strawberry Sorbet made right in your own kitchen.

Strawberries, sugar, salt and lemon juice blended then poured into the ice cream maker takes less than 10 minutes.

The Smart Scoop pre-cools itself to an optimal operating temperature keeping ice-cream cool for up to three hours after being made. You select your settings from the LED display and it works magic. It even stays cold after your treat is made so it can stay in the Smart Scoop for up to three hours.

You can taste test directly from the removable bowl that holds up to 1.5 quarts of ice cream.

When the kids are home I set a good example and scoop us all a bowl full. But on those tough days you might find me sampling right out of the Breville container.

Sorbet like Oprah and while you’re daydreaming about that fabulousness, make yourself a shopping list for all the mix ins you’ll be adding to tomorrow’s ice cream. Not to worry, the Smart Scoop also beeps to let you know when it’s time to add in your mix ins!

  2. Well, I’ve never! never made my own ice cream or sorbet and this recipe is well, too easy to NOT try! I wonder if I could buy my daughter an ice cream maker for her family and just have her make me sorbet all summer long!!! Could be a win win!!! She has many more mouths to feed than i do these days and we spend a good amount of our summer weekends over there. Hmmmm, could be on Santa’s list ??

  3. Oprah has a recipe book? Where’ve I been?! Your sorbet looks and sounds delicious! Never made sorbet before but I keep meaning to – I love strawberries but I’ve actually got tons of blueberries to use up, so maybe I could made some sorbet with them!

  4. This sorbet looks soooo refreshing! We bought an ice cream maker about a year ago, and it has been one of the best things ever – we make a little something for ourselves nearly every week. I love that we can keep our frozen treats light and clean, and chemical free.
