How to Set Your Holiday Table | Step by Step How To Guide

Growing up we never had a properly set table at dinnertime so it’s no surprise that setting my own table usually doesn’t look like something you would see in a holiday magazine. Our everyday table gets set with little hands helping and usually ends up with a few extra items incorporated at each seat. I do feel it’s important for my daughters to learn how to properly set a table and this season Cracker Barrel is helping make our holiday table extra special. This is the first year without my husband’s grandmother and we certainly will miss the holiday traditions she shared with our family. Every year she would visit Cracker Barrel to purchase candy to send to my husband so having dinnerware on our table from the old country store reminds us of our daughters’ Great Grandma Dorothy. With an extended assortment of dinnerware available at shop.CrackerBarrel.com, this product exclusively available there will be loved all year long. Learning how to set your holiday table with a step by step how to guide is easy.

How to Set Your Holiday Table

Decor

Your holiday table should be a reflection of your own style and personality. For me, that means we are using items we already have at home and love during the holidays. Our holiday table is one that reminds us of what we really enjoy during this season. A tablecloth or runner, or both layered, is the foundation to a great holiday table. Then top the center of your table with favorite holiday decorations including height in the middle. We used a red tree with red and blue ball ornaments.

holiday table decor tip: use holiday wrapping paper down the center of your table to make a table runner.

Silverware

Properly setting your holiday table should include silverware in the correct order at each place setting in the following order from left to right: salad fork, dinner fork, plate, knife, teaspoon and dinner spoon. Depending on who you ask, this order might be different.

Serveware

My mom is the first to point out I never have salt on our dinner table. This year she is getting her own salt & pepper shakers like all our dinner guests with these adorable mini stoneware cow shakers.

Matching trivets are also making an appearance on our holiday table in anticipation of all the yummy warm food we’ll be serving this season.

Setting your holiday table is easy when you have a plan. Begin with the basics and add more each year. With a two year old daughter at home, I fully expect our holiday table to get more complex each year as she grows. For now, we’re keeping it simple and turning to Cracker Barrel for beautiful stoneware that is dishwasher and microwave safe.
