Chocolate Peppers – Cinco De Mayo Treat

I was looking for a fun Cinco De Mayo themed snack to share at my daughter’s playgroup fiesta potluck earlier this week.  I found chocolate peppers in the May edition of Disney’s Family Fun magazine.  They weren’t too difficult to make and the kids loved them.

Ingredients:
-Tootsie Roll Midgees
-Pretzel Sticks
-Red Candy Melts
-Green Candy Melts

Heat your oven to 200 degrees and turn off.

Line a pan with parchment paper and tootsie rolls.  Put the pan in your warm oven to soften.  The pan can be left in the oven while you work.

Use two warm tootsie rolls to form a pepper shape around a pretzel stick.

Repeat until you have used all your warm tootsie rolls.

Pour the red candy melts into a microwave safe bowl.

Heat in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds, until completely melted.

Dip each pepper in the red chocolate.  Gently tap the excess off the pepper.

Dry on a pan lined with parchment paper.

Use a small knife to trim the pretzels to make pepper stems.

I also trimmed the excess red chocolate from the peppers with a small knife.

Melt the green candy melts in the microwave and dip the end of each pepper in the warm chocolate.

Dry peppers on a lined pan.

These are so cute and yummy!

Be sure to tell your friends they are chocolate!  These would make a fun April Fool’s Day treat too.
