Most days I feel like I’m barely surviving between all the messes, eight year old girl drama from my oldest daughter, chasing a toddler through Walmart, making sure our family is fed, science projects, homework, crafts, laundry, chores, you get it – this list goes on and on. But then I stop and take a minute to breathe in that glorious feeling of, “wow, I got this.” Even the busiest days somehow manage to fall together and I’ve only forgotten my oldest daughter at school pick up once. In my defense, it was a half day and my husband had just wiped our entire family calendar because “no one uses that thing anyway.” Wait, this week we’re working on teaching accountability. Yes, yes I did forget to pick up my daughter from school last year but it won’t ever happen again…hopefully. As moms we juggle a lot and it’s hard to ever even think about getting a break. When do I have time for a break? When do I have time to think about a break? This week I did take a break and made one night feel just a little easier with Red Baron® Classic Crust from Walmart. We paired the yummy pizza with Mozzarella Tomato Skewers & Balsamic Ranch Dip with plenty of help in the kitchen from my two year old daughter. In fact, she was so helpful all day, I’ll walk you through exactly what our day looked like from morning all the way until I finally called it a night and tucked that sweet little thing into bed.

My mornings begin much earlier than anyone else in my home waking up. Unless on the busiest days with work deadlines, like yesterday, our youngest daughter decides she should get up at 4:00 am like mommy. Excellent.

So here we are, it’s 4:00 am, and I have big plans to convince my two year old daughter to go back to bed for an hour (or two or even three). I walk in her room and she’s happy as can be getting her morning started with stretches. “Reach high in the sky…” Check out that awesome bedhead. So awesome that I just had to let it go when she refused to let me comb her hair all day. Some fights just aren’t worth the struggle.

We negotiated and she played quietly in her room until the sun came up. As soon as she saw the sunlight peeking through her window she exclaimed, “Yay, the sun is awake!” Breakfast time was a failed effort. I made pretty pancakes but she decided she would much rather push her plate to the corner of the table just at the right place to share with the dog, her best buddy that very much appreciates all the extra love.

Big sister is now awake and our house is in full chaos mode. Off to school she goes with my husband so this gives little sister the reighns to the entire house again. No TV time in the morning? No problem, she’ll just handle that herself.

A few timeouts, reading books, building blocks, snack time, playing hide and seek with the dog (yeah, that’s a thing in our house), jumping on the bed, another timeout, and we’ve made it to 9:00 am. Next up was “borrowing” her big sister’s favorite sequined pillow, being a big helper by unloading the dirty dishwasher, emptying a cabinet to stack plastic cups and finally a little iPad time with our cat.

Lunch and a nap, now it’s time to pick up big sister from school. Knowing we were in for a very busy week because we are right in the middle of selling our home, we headed to Walmart for dinner ingredients. She told her big sister to go away so she could walk with her best friend, her shadow. Of course that resulted in our oldest daughter storming off ahead and little sister skipping along with her new friend.

What’s for dinner? The one thing my girls do agree on – pizza! We stopped in the frozen pizza aisle to pick out our favorite Red Baron® Classic Crust.

Did you really think these girls would agree on a variety? That’s okay, we had a  Red Baron coupon so each of my daughters picked out their favorite.

And we’re off as I’m silently hoping little sister doesn’t crash into anything or anyone while insisting she “drives” the shopping cart herself.

A few minutes later we have to stop because we’ve lost a shoe.

And of course there are the inevitable two year old Walmart meltdowns on even the best of days. “You stop right now, you’re not my best friend anymore,” screamed loudly caught the attention of more than just her big sister.

The happy camper is back, “I NEEEEEEED this beautiful nail polish.”

While big sister was picking out a book, our sweet two year old was opening the packaging to a book with play set. She apparently figured out the, “it’s open, now we have to buy it” rule.

We finally made it home and started preparing dinner. At two, a pizza in your oven at home means you have to wait the equivalent of 75 hours to eat.

I kept her occupied by asking for help with the tomato mozzarella skewers.

  2. Hahaha, this was a great post. I absolutely feel the struggle with toddlers. But, we all know the saying, treasure the moments, as they grow up so fast. The skewers are also a loved item at my home, although we don’t use the ranch. Will have to try that though.
